At an elevation of 1,600 meters, Sapa is a delightful former French hill station situated in the mountainous region of Vietnam's northwest, close to the Chinese border. The region is home to many ethnic minority groups, each wearing traditional and colorful attire. This trip includes a trek through the hills and valleys of the Sapa region, discovering several different minorities along the way. The apparent hardships are worth it though as we walk through some of the most spectacular scenery that Vietnam has to offer and experience unique villages culture.

Brief Itinerary
Night 1: Overnight train to Laocai
Day 1: Drive to Sapa/Trek to Giang Ta Chai Village
Day 2: Trek Sapa village - Thanh Phu
Day 3: Trek/drive back to Sapa. Overnight train back to Hanoi
Day 4: Arrive in Hanoi. Tour concludes

Night 1: Night train to Lao Cai
Note: Even though, there is Highway Express to connect Hanoi - Lao cai that shortens the road transfer down to 5.5 hours from 8-9 hours, we still offer this trip with railway transfer. The rail in Vietnam is very much different to those ones in your country then train ride itself is an experience worthy to take. If you don't like train transfer, contact our team to change to road transfer. If road transfer confirmed, the tour omits this night and starts from Day 01.
Transfer from your hotel to Hanoi Railway Station for the night train to Lao Cai. Overnight in A/C soft sleeper cabin.

Day 1: Transfer to Sapa - Trek to Giang Ta Chai Village & 4,5hrs hiking
Arrive in Lao Cai in an early, mist morning at around 5.30am. Take a drive about one hour to the fame, beautiful town, Sapa. The ride gives you a glimpse of the stunning vistas and impressive rice terraces. Take a hot, delicious breakfast in order to warm your body up then prepare for a great trek down to the picturesque valley of Muong Hoa.
Commence your trek from Sapa by car to Lao Chai village, a Black Hmong village. You will take trekking from Lao Chai to Tavan village where the Giay hill tribe lives. After lunch the walk continues through a bamboo forest to Giang Ta Chai, a Red Dao village where we will have unique homestay experience among hill tribe people. Picnic lunch is served on the way while dinner is cooked the local house.
Transfer Lao Cai - Sapa: 1 hours driving
Trekking: 4.5 hours hiking on dirt paths/downhill
Accommodation: Homestay
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 2: Trek Giang Ta Chai - Su Pan - Thanh Kim - Thanh Phu Village & 7 hrs hikking
Wake up early and immerse yourself at tranquility morning. Take a sit on the canopy and you may see the host's neighbors are starting a new day with interesting activities. Have a full breakfast, and we start the today trek through the rice terraces of Sapa which lead to a village of Su Pan then continue to Thanh Kim for lunch.
After lunch time, we will trek along a narrow valley downhill for 2 hours to the Ngoi Bo River, keep another one hour uphill hiking to Muong Bo Village at the center of Thanh Phu Commune. This are is home of Tay minority. We will have dinner and stay overnight in a wooden Tay stilt house.
Trekking: 7 hours trekking on dirt paths/downhill
Accommodation: Homestay
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 3: Thanh Phu Village - Sapa & 1 hr hiking
The last day is a quite easy day because we start hiking back to the car pack. Keep walking down hill to Thanh Phu bridge where we will meet our driver again. Take a beautiful drive back to Sapa.
Upon arrive in Sapa, we take shower and spend the rest of the day exploring Sapa town with market, square and abandoned church. Pack your things up, take some last flashing views of the charming, quiet town, at 5.30 pm we will be transferred to Lao Cai for the night train back to Hanoi.
Trekking: 1 hour trekking
Transfer Sapa - railway station: 1-hr
Meals: Breakfast
Accommodation: Soft sleeper in AC cabin

Day 4: Back to Hanoi
Arrive in Hanoi around 5 am. You will need to take a taxi back to your hotel or transfer directly to airport to connect to your next adventures to Myanmar, Laos and Cambodia with Activetravel ASIA.
Our typical trek to Sapa ends up Railways Station arrival.

Trekking grade: Moderate Grade that means this trekking tour involve in active, physical-required activities can be up to 4 - 5 hours a day at a steady pace. The tour is going to involve a considerable amount of ascent or descent under different weather conditions. Support facilities may not be available on-site and there are some occasional difficult days. You will need a good level of fitness.
* Suggested preparation: 30 - 45 minutes of aerobic, physical exercise, 3-4 times per week for a few weeks leading up to your adventure are recommended.

All meals, which are indicated in the itinerary, are included in the price of this trip. On this trip our tour guide or local host will cook dinner for you. Picnic lunch would be prepared by a local restaurant in Sapa. The emphasis will be on healthy and nutritious fresh local produce.

Train travel
On our tour, we use first class trains of King Express, Orient Express, Fanxipan Express or Sapaly Train. These trains all offer Deluxe cabin with clean, comfortable, air - conditioned sleeper. The homestay
Homestay in villages is simple in term of bedding condition and amenities. We will sleep on floor or on beds with mattress, clean sheet, pillows and mosquito nets. Toilet is usually western style.

Our tour guide
The tour will be guided by one of our tour guides who are experienced in guiding trekking tours in Vietnam. He has been carefully trained in this field and is fully licensed in tour guiding by the government. In addition, he has been trained in first-aid by SOS International and he knows how to deal with difficult situations. You will have a great time traveling with him.

The transfers
In Hanoi, one ATA staff will accompany you to the train to show you your cabin and tell you how to deal with night train travelling in Vietnam.
In Lao Cai, our guide will meet you at Lao Cai Railway Station in the morning of the first day. He also sees you off at Lao Cai Railway Station on the third day.
When you get back to Hanoi on day 4, you can easily find a taxi to get to your hotel.

The trekking day
A typical trekking day start at about 8.30 am after breakfast. Lunch times can vary depending on the terrain. We aim to reach the next overnight stop by 4.30 or 5. During the trek we will have short breaks for rest, snack and photographing.
