Surrounding Areakeyboard_double_arrow_up
Just pottering around the nearby
Dales, visiting the waterfalls or caves
at Ingleton, looking round Kirkby
Lonsdale, Dent and Settle needs a
day or two; with Lake Windermere
and the spectacular Settle-Carlisle
railway both only a half hour's drive
away, even one of our Three Day
Breaks is too short to see all that this
beautiful part of Britain has to offer.

Walkers too find Hipping Hall
a convenient centre. Our stile
leads on to the footpath that
will take you over Leck Fell
into Barbondale or across into
Kingsdale; whilst a twenty
minute drive will bring you to
the Forest of Bowland and its
expanse of empty hills
overlooking the Irish Sea.
Accommodationskeyboard_double_arrow_up
Somewhere different where you will
feel you're staying in a private
country-house, rather than a hotel.
For above all else, Hipping Hall is
our home.

It is the remnant of a hamlet
stemming from the 15th century,
taking its name from the "hipping" or
stepping stones where the old
drovers' road forded the stream,
beside which the ancient
wash-house (for washing fleeces)
still stands.

Today the hall is a handsome country-house set in three
acres of walled gardens, whose lush vegetation is evidence
of our sheltered location on the Cumbrian/Yorkshire
border at Cowan Bridge (where the Brontë sisters
attended the clergy daughters school).

We are 2 miles from the attractive market town of Kirkby
Lonsdale in the Lune Valley (the view Ruskin described as
"...one of the loveliest scenes in England - therefore in the
world"!!).
Amenitieskeyboard_double_arrow_up
The comfortable bedrooms all have en suite facilities, direct dial
telephones, colour TV and a tray of beverages (with a tin of Jos' cookies)
and are mostly furnished with antiques (these rooms will be for
non-smokers from 1999).

In addition to the five double rooms in the house, we have two very pretty
cottage suites across the courtyard, with sitting room and small kitchen
leading, via a wrought iron spiral staircase, to the bedroom and bathroom
above.

These cottage suites are especially suitable if you intend staying for several
days, making Hipping Hall your base from which to tour both the
Cumbrian Lakes and the Yorkshire Dales.
Other Informationkeyboard_double_arrow_up
Directors or partners' meetings, senior
management "think-tanks", marketing
presentations, even small seminars, they all
work well at Hipping Hall, especially those
requiring privacy and security. If you want to
combine with play, whilst the workers toil over
their crystal balls, we'll ensure their partners
enjoy visits to places of interest, play some golf,
or shoot clays. We arrange everything to suit
your schedule.

And as we're only fifteen minutes from the M6,
participants appreciate our being easy to get to.

Our private country-house parties have
proved very successful and we are now
offering them year round. Whether you
are having a family party or entertaining
clients, you'll find Hipping Hall's
informality will quickly relax your guests
and ensure your party is a success.

Most guests choose weekends but
shooting or corporate parties can book
weekdays. The minimum number is five
couples during November-March and
seven in April-October. The price is for 2
nights dinner (5 courses with 3 wines),
bed & breakfast (with Champagne
Brunch on second morning), afternoon
tea, cocktails, etc.

A great way to celebrate
anniversaries, entertain clients or just
for a get-together with old friends.
