Day 2 Auckland- Whitianga via Coromandel (210km approx. 4 hours driving)

South we go. Leaving New Zealand's largest city we head for the Coromandel, one of the key locations for the New Zealand gold rush in the 1800's. En route depending on how you feel there may be time for a walk through one the region's many kauri tree forests where you will encounter the flora and fauna of New Zealand's North Island at its best. We follow the coast road to the town of Coromandel where we take a trip on ' The Driving Creek Railway', New Zealand's only narrow-gauge mountain railway along with a working pottery and wild life sanctuary. From there we take the stunningly scenic inland route to the coastal town of Whitianga, known for the famous Buffalo Beach and its palm trees that line the shore. This will be our base for the next 2 nights.

'Guiding New Zealand tours is not just a business for me, it is a way of life" according to Company Director Chris Cameron.

'Ever since I was 13 years old, I have been designing itineraries for typical New Zealand tours with families and friends, be it at the bach on the beach for a week long trip, in the mountains or a simple day trip to the french village of Akaroa, part of the fun was in the planning.'

'When the opportunity arose for me to start guiding our New Zealand tours for people from various nationalities and all walks of life, I jumped at the opportunity.'

Multilingual with the ability to speak German, French and Spanish, Chris believes that it is always the little extras that go a long way in making the clients' experience one that they will always remember.

'I started The Road Trip after years of guiding tours in New Zealand, France and the UK and learning as much as possible along the way about what really makes a positive impact on customers. With a passion for nature and the outdoors, I believe in seeing not only the highlights of a country but also the hard to find back country spots that not many others know about. My country is like a large box of treasure but the beauty is in seeking out what would otherwise be hidden on a typical tourist map.'

At The Road Trip, our philosophy is to go out of our way and go the extra mile for our customers from the minute they make contact with us up until the end of their memorable private New Zealand tour. We always suggest the best possible driving routes, walks and activities along the way but the wonderful thing is that the tour is private and exclusive to your group only so activities can always be changed en route depending on your mood.

Let me welcome you for 'The Road Trip' of a lifetime.

All of our trips are guided by private vehicle with your own private, driver guide who can really make your holiday one to remember forever. We are registered with the New Zealand Department of Conservation meaning that we know all of the best walking spots that would never be accessible on a coach
