The Turrialba Valley is rich is pure, fresh water - and the granddaddy of white water is the Pacuare, Class IV. Named by National Geographic as one of top ten white water rivers of the world, 28 miles with almost non-stop rapids. There's rafting, white water kayaking, and duckies -- a fun way to learn the essentials of kayaking, or great for kids on the Pejibaye river, nearby.
Turrialba Volcano is the most active volcano in Costa Rica, with continuous steam eruptions. You can ascend to the base of the volcano, to the cloud forest.
There's canyoning _ waterfalls, ropes, harnesses, gravity and TRUST. World class mountain bike competitions are here as well.
Within 20 minutes is Costa Rica's only pre-Columbian ruins, an hour away is an Indigenous community where you can ride horses. Ten minutes to the largest botanical garden in Costa Rica. And birding - from the Resplendent Quetzal at the base of the volcano, to nesting toucans and falcons right off the deck of the house.
And we're only 2 hours from the beach - close enough for a day excursion.
