Negril is on the western most tip of the island of Jamaica and was only 'discovered' in the late 1950s when a highway was built connecting it to the nearby town of Green Island which opened it up to visitors from Montego Bay. It is probably the furthermost distance from Kingston of any town in Jamaica and has developed its own identity primarily around tourism thereby shunning the political mayhem oftentimes associated with Jamaica. The emphasis in Negril is certainly on the environment. The completion of a US$30M sewerage system has already made a difference in the water quality of Long Bay.
Llantrissant is not only the oldest domicile in Negril it was the first property to offer accomodations oftentimes to wealthy Jamaican families who wanted to experience a weekend away from the stressful lives of their Caribbean ventures. The house is a lodge like structure with large posts and exposed beams. The living room opens onto a sixty foot veranda facing the sea. It is cooled by ceiling fans and louvered windows which allow sea breezes to waft throughout the house. All the beds are covered with mosquito nettings and have bedside fans. As of December 2017, the tennis court was converted from a grass court to a Northeast Fast Dry Red Clay court.
Once in Negril, go past the roundabout in the center of town and head along the coast towards Rick's Cafe on the cliffs. The property is about a third of a mile from the roundabout across from St. Mary's Anglican Church which is just past the Sunshine Plaza with the Hi-Lo Supermarket and National Commercial Bank. The Negril Library is on the other side of the property. If you have gone past The Negril All-Age School, you have gone too far. The entrance is on the sea hand side of the road.
