  • Great location, facilities and service

By Kennethjore on Oct 12, 2010

We stayed for a week at the Hotel Elite and it's position right on the southern tip of the old quater just a minutes walk from Hoan Kiem lake makes it ideal for getting around Hanoi.
The staff are friendly and professional, our check in was a breeze. However to be honest their check process could be somewhat more efficient. We had two rooms and because they were both in my name all charges were put together and not separated making the check out process a mess and time consuming. None of our accounts had been entered into a computer system. Their reason for this was that they had been having problems with the system. We also asked to get our bill together the night before but we were told this would not be necessary.
All in all though that was the only negative.
The manager is very hands on and knows what is going on in his hotel. The girls at reception particularly Andi and Pham try their absolute best to attend to any requests and always ask about your day. They even procured tickets for the puppet theatre for us as we did not have time to get them. The young men on the door are always ready with a smile and a good morning etc.
The included breakfast was fresh and more than adequate. Having a spa in the building is great after a hard day of sightseeing. The beds are comfortable and the room facilities are modern and clean. Our shower leaked but this appeared to be a design error which was attended to once we brought it to the managers attention.
We had a junior suite with a balcony and we loved this room. The hotel designers have done a great job of minimising the traffic noise of Hanoi and we always slept well. The other half of our travelling party had a deluxe room with a window. This was a nicely set out room big enough for two people. The window overlooked the river. In one of the rooms we saw the window looked directly onto another building this was not as nice as the rooms on the upper floors.
The hotel has a travel desk but at no time do they attempt to push their tours on you. However if you want to go somewhere they will arrange it for you and for us they even did this at pretty short notice. We were very happy here and the level of service was wonderful for a city that is only coming to grips with the influx of tourists it is now geting. This is truely a lovely small boutique hotel. The free internet and laptops were the icing on the cake.

  • Convenient and clean

We began our Vietnam experience by booking 2 nights in the Hotel Elegance. The hotel is centrally located in the busy part of the Old Town. Streets around the hotel are noisy - but after midnight things quieten down and we had no trouble sleeping.
The room was OK - but we had requested twin beds - there was one large bed and the other was a put u up sort of thing. The front of house team did apologise for this

Complimentary wine and fruit were nice touches.

We used the front desk to organize the rest of our visit to Vietnam and they did so very efficiently - boat trip to Ha Long, train to Da Nang and then accommodation in Hoi An - flight
to Saigon and hotel in Saigon. Some good advice though the jokes wore a bit thin after a while.

Good value for money, clean and convenient - but it appears some rooms do not have windows. This is a quirk of some Vietnamese buildings.
