Located just a short train journey outside of Innsbruck, The Apsley Ski Lodge is the perfect place for people looking for a city break, some outdoor adventure and a return to nature! Located in the heart of the Austrian Alps this hostel is very relaxed and will give you a real taste of Austrian alpine life!
Situated in the beautiful Wildschoenau Valley there is a huge array of activities on offer including; hiking, mountain biking, horse riding and is one of Austria's main paragliding hot spots. And if you ever fancied skiing in summer, now is your chance! The views are stunning, the locals are friendly, the air is fresh and the prices are cheap!
Traditionally decorated the Apsley Ski Lodge is made up of a mixture of warm, cosy and unbelievably comfortable twins, doubles and dorm rooms, all with en suites and most with balconies, allowing you to admire the breath taking views from your own room.
The Lodge appreciate how tight travelers budgets can be so most of the services on offer are free.
The owners also want everyone to see and experience the Austrian Alps to the full so guests receive a free Wildschoenau card. This allows you free use of many of the valleys amenities including the mountain gondola, outdoor swimming pool (with slides!), tennis courts, museums and guided walks amongst others, around the area.
This place really is good value for money! In fact they will even throw in a free traditional Austrian breakfast for you every morning! Sound crazy, maybe it is all the schnapps they've been drinking?!
The staff aim to welcome you with open arms and are only too happy to share their local knowledge and help arrange things for you, ensuring that you experience everything that this simply stunning part of Austrian has to offer to the extent that we can even organize summer glacier skiing for those who want it!
The Lodge is also a great place to base yourself to explore the surrounding area including the medieval towns of Rattenburg and Halle as well as Innsbruck, Munich and Slazburg all being easily accessible by train.
The Apsley wants you to feel 100% at home here as well. When not out adventuring in the day guest can chill out and watch DVD's or Sky TV on the super comfy bean bags and sofas in the lounge. There is an outdoor terrace to soak up the sun, hot tub, access to sauna and steam room, swimming pool free Wi-Fi.
In the evening why not fire up the BBQ and with over 22 different flavors of schnapps in the hostel bar there is usually some kind of party going on, even if there was no party to begin with!

Winter: Ski slopes 2 minutes walk away, Cross Country Ski Tracks, Night Skiing, Sledge Rides, tobogganing, Apres Ski, indoor Rock climbing, Ice Climbing, Snowshoe walking, guided winter walks.
Getting to Niederau is very staright forward and once there just look out for the large Eagle sign!
Train: Niederau is accessible by train from Innsbruck , Munich or Salzburg. Catch the train direct to Woergl.
From there you can jump on the bus outside at bus stop H sign posted Niederau/Auffach, which will drop you in Niederau in about 20 mins, outside the Spar supermarket. (You will pass the hostel with a Large Eagle Logo on the wall as you enter Niederau on your right hand side)
Just walk back on yourself round the corner from where the bus came from about 100m and it is opposite the Sports Klaus hotel. Number 191. If the bus drops you somewhere else in the village just walk down back towards Woergl.
Airport: The closest airport is Innsbruck 45 minutes away and Munich is about 1hr 20mins away. In winter several companies can arrange your transfer to and from the airport or again the train to Woergl is just as easy.
Car: From the A12/E45 exit at Woergl and follow the green signs to The Wildschoenau, finally turning left or right (depending on which direction you are coming from) by the church in the middle of Woergl-again sign posted Wildschoenau. You will drive about 7km up the gorge into the valley. We are located about 400m past the Niederau sign on the right hand side opposite the SportsKlaus Hotel. If you reach the bank at the top of the road then you have gone too far.
