Orcas and Grizzlies Wildlife Tour. Rise in time to take breakfast at the lodge and meet the grizzly bear viewing boat at 7:00 am. Our destination is Knight Inlet, a two hour ride by covered boat into Johnstone Strait. Becoming famous for its population of Grizzly bears, Knight Inlet a long and deep glacier-carved fjord surrounded by snow-capped mountains and steep-sided, forested cliffs. Here we drift, paddle and motor quietly around an estuary, looking to spot grizzly bears as they feed on the sedges and grasses at high tide. Low tide brings more bears out, and we may see them turn over large boulders in their search for crabs, isopods and beach barnacles. On some tides we transfer to our flat bottomed skiff to get into the shallows. Please bring your binoculars and camera! Lunch is included. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Rocky Mountain Wildlife Trip. The next day we take a one hour drive further into the park to a small dock on Clearwater Lake. This lake is one of the premier canoeing lakes in BC and is in the heart of a protected watershed. We take the rest of the day for a leisurely paddle to our campsite, always on the lookout for moose, deer and wolf.. No canoeing experience is needed as our guides are also instructors, enabling trip members the opportunity to perfect their Canadian canoeing techniques. Our campsite has outhouses, tables, fire-pits, and tent sites.
On Day 4 we waken in a complete wilderness setting and very far from the maddening crowd! We can pack a lunch and explore up lake for fishing holes or paddle to the end of the lake where the Clearwater River pours into the lake and forms a small lagoon. Or you may choose to swim or sit in the sun and read. We head back to the dock by late afternoon. . Breakfast, lunch and dinner are included.
Rockies West Mini-Safari. In Jasper we tour some of the scenic spots for wildlife viewing and photo taking. A morning drive along a mountain offers great chances of seeing elk, mule and white-tail deer, bighorn sheep and perhaps a grizzly bear. We stop at Pyramid Lake for short walk and then head to Maligne Canyon for a hike down the trail of Six Bridges. Our next stop is Maligne Lake where passengers will have the option of joining a scenic guided boat tour to the world famous Spirit Island. No trip to the Rockies could be complete without a picture of this Island, a quintessential symbol of pristine wilderness.
Paws and Jaws Kayak and Wildlife Tour. As we search for signs of orcas, our paddling routes take us along forested shorelines, rock cliffs inhabited by bald eagles, and through hidden coves and lagoons. A promising sign is the presence of salmon, the orca’s favourite dish. At any moment we may see a fin break water or encounter a pod of orcas as we round a bend in the coastline. When this happens, we form a ‘raft’ by coming together as a group and grabbing the gunnels of a fellow paddler’s kayak. If we are lucky, the orcas will not interrupt their path and will swim either beside our raft, or underneath it.
