Leaside Manor is a very large, attractive, heritage property located a few minutes from downtown St. John's, within walking distance of the harbour. Owned for more than two generations by one of Newfoundland's most prominent merchant families - the Parkers of Parker and Monroe - Leaside was converted into a heritage inn
in 1995/6. A Tudor mansion, it retains all of its original character and elegance.
Leaside is an outstanding example of Tudor architecture and style. Unique to the city, the Lea was built and completed in June 1921 for John Joseph (John J.). and Flora (Frew) Parker following their return from a six month honeymoon in England. History has it that John J. Parker's mother may have influenced the design of this unique home. She lived with her uncle, Dr. Campbell Syme, in Kilmacolm, Scotland from just prior to World War 1 to 1920.
"The Lea" is the only home of its style within the province. At the exterior: Tudor styling; cedar siding; unique stylized roof lines; colonial columns; lead-lined windows; double, beveled, plate glass doors at the entranceway; expansive lot with sweeping walkway; heavily treed lot; wrought iron fencing and double-gated drive. At its interior, Leaside still holds most of the charm of the era in which it was constructed: paneled walls, light sconces, ornate fireplaces, and inlaid wood flooring.
Leaside Manor offers its clients access to an executive boardroom located in a luxurious and very comfortable heritage setting. The Kilmacolm Room is designed to accommodate 20+ people in a Boardroom setting, and as many as 35 to 40 in theatre layout. Lunches and refreshments are served in the Dining Room and Reception Hall respectively. Breakout rooms are available.
Leaside hosts many retreats. Corporations looking to hold retreats will find Leaside the perfect get-away. We can be full service in this regard -meals, etc.
Leaside is also a beautiful location for breakfast meetings, private luncheons, dinner parties, receptions, weddings, wedding photos, and so on. Maximum numbers 50-60...slightly higher in summer. Call for details.
Leaside has the prettiest suites in the city!
All of our suites include breakfast in room. Breakfast is served at 10:30 or before.
