El Refugio Hostel

Located in the village of Cartajima, just 16km from Ronda in Andalucia, in the little known Alta Genal valley, the hostel benefits from local walks through resplendent valleys to neighbouring villages, with guided walks by a local expert also available. The area is a mountain bikers dream and popular with birdwatchers, artists and photographers alike.

The magnificent Sierra de Las Nieves National Park is just 10 min by car.


A delightfully laid back atmosphere awaits in this traditionally built 300 year old hostel. Open all year accommodation consists of a dormitory located in a rustic chestnut beamed room, with two double rooms and a private twin bunk room also available.

Directions

The nearest Airports are at Malaga and Jerez de la Frontera. Both cities have bus services to Ronda. From Ronda there is one bus per day on schooldays to Cartajima leaving at 14.30.

There is a train service from Algeciras to Ronda on the picturesque Algeciras Express.

A taxi from Ronda to Cartajima is around 20 euros. Alternatively call the hostel to arrange a pick-up.

From Jerez de la Frontera head for the A382 Antequera road, and turn off at Algodonales for the A376 Ronda road. Pass through Ronda folllowing the signs for San Pedro ( still A376). After around 10km turn first right signposted Cartajima, Juzcar, Parauta

By car from Malaga take the toll road (Peaje) E15 towards Algeciras and turn of at San Pedro de Alcantara for the A376/A397 Ronda road. After 40 km take the left turn signposted Cartajima/Juzcar/Parauta.


Directions in Cartajima: pass the recycling centre on the right and take the upper(level) road. Turn immediately sharp right and park in the square with the telephone box. Continue on foot past the telephone box and straight on across the lower steps of the church. Turn left at the end from where El Refugio is visible.
