The Youth Hostel in Agerola (San Lazzaro), 650m above the Amalfi coast, was one of the first A.I.G. Hostels to open in Italy. Since 1949 it has occupied the original stables of the gatehouse to the long gone Castel Avitabile (1791-1850).
The building itself is of historic interest as it is a Protected Building. Only the inside has been renovated, creating the Hostel and the Guest Rooms (2008), both of which have full bathroom facilities, living areas and lavish kitchens. The main Piazza and bus stop are directly in front of the building and behind and to the sides is the Campsite, with four large, grassy, shaded zones, fully equipped for tents or campervans.
Agerola is a dream-like location. Close enough for day trips to the Amalfi coast, Capri and Pompei, Positano and Sorrento and yet secluded and isolated, thus offering privacy and a really healthy look at how life has gone on in southern Italy for hundreds of years.
Though a small town, it is relatively spread out, offering the most incredible views down to the sparkling, clear-blue sea lapping at the Amalfi coastline, 650m directly below. Or you might prefer the surrounding mountains, rising to almost 1400m. Walks, trails, hikes and climbs are all a must for the more adventurous, but the friendliness of the people, traditional cooking and products as well as the relaxed lifestyle will transfix you in no time and have you wishing you could stay forever.

From the Airport there are buses to the Train station (Centrale) every few minutes. They leave from right outside the arrivals lounge. Get your ticket in the newsagents in the Airport.
From Napoli you have a choice:
Direct Bus : Mon-sat only!!! When you walk out of the Station there is an information kiosk in front of you which sells tickets (for Agerola, San Lazzaro). Then you leave the Piazza by turning left (to the left of the Termini hotel) and at the first traffic light (300mts), turn left. On the right of that road, after 50 mts there are bus stops. Take the bus that goes to Agerola, San Lazzaro. You'll have to ask the driver. The timetable is 8,00 - 10,40 - 11,40 -14:30, 16,15, 17:30 to us, but only 6:55, 8:55, 12:45 and 15:15 back to Napoli, the last one requiring a change of bus in Gragnano(I'll explain to anyone who wants to take it).
The bus arrives in the Piazza of San Lazzaro and the property is behind you.
Train and Bus : If you can't take a direct bus, then you have to take the CircumVessuviana Train. Do not leave the train station. Follow the signs for the CircumVessuviana, get your ticket and go in the direction of Castellammare di Stabia. Your stop is the first one after Via Nocera. I think it's just called Castellammare di Stabia. You'll find yourself in a small piazza, where you need to buy a ticket, either in the station itself or just outside, for Agerola, San Lazzaro. The bus arrives in the Piazza of San Lazzaro and the property is behind you. The timetable is
7 ,00- 7.30 -8,55 - 10,00 - 11,35 -12,25 - 13,30 - , 14:30, - 18,25 - , 19,40 - and the last bus is at 20,40
