  • Serenity in Madison

By Andrew on Aug 04, 2009

Southern Cross Guest Ranch is one of my two favorite vacation spots (the other being Scotland!).

Our first visit to Southern Cross included staying in a Level 2 room (the rooms are separated into five levels with Level 1 being the 'lowest' and Level 5 being the 'highest.') It was a larger-than-hotel room with a King-size bed and two twin beds, our own bathroom, and a private balcony overlooking the pastures. I highly doubt any Level room is "bad" at Southern Cross.

When you're here, you feel like you're part of the family. Meals are served in a buffet-style, but you don't feel like an "all you can eat" type of place. The food is excellent, and there is something there for everyone. The dining hall is open 24 hrs/7 days a week for beverages and baked goods throughout the day. (Unlike a hotel in which you have to BUY your drinks).

The trail riding is one of the most liberating trail rides we've ever ridden. The first time you go out, you have to go with a guide to show you the ropes, etc. Any other time, you can go out as pairs or with your own group. (It's easy to make friends). The horses are evenly matched, and there are horses for very green beginners to experienced riders.

If horseback riding is not your cup of tea, dip in the pool, the hot tub, the aquamassage, or play horseshoes, ride bikes, or visit nearby Madison, Georgia.

We are going a second time this year because you just can't beat the pricing and the relaxing serenity at the Ranch.
