We are enjoying our last few moments on Bermuda and thought we would write a review on Grotto Bay before all of the Rum Swizzles at the Swizzle Inn kicked in. Overall we have had a great week and honeymoon on the island. We were looking for something all-inclusive and that search led us to Grotto Bay. Bermuda is not cheap, nearly everything here is imported. The one benefit is that everything is priced in dollars with the Bermuda dollar pegged to the US; they are interchangeable.
Overall, we are pretty impressed. The facilities, rooms, and amenities were quite good. We choose the all inclusive package for three of the five nights. The package is a good value if you drink alcohol and eat at least two meals in the hotel. The liquor selection was good but the service was somewhat slow, keeping their costs down. The food was very good, especially at the Hibiscus Room where entrees were up to $40. This wasn't cheap cruise fare.
The rooms were very nice and clean with comfortable beds. I was a bit confused with the layout of the property in terms of room selection. You will walk up and down the hill to either the main house where most meals are served, the pool and poolside restaurant half way down, or to the beach. The rooms are mostly about the view. The higher up the better the view. All had adequate views in my opinion.
The waterfront was nice with lots of options and water toys for rent. With the all-inclusive package, the non-powered ones were free, a very good value since the rentals here and everywhere on the island are overpriced...you can buy the snorkeling gear for the price of a one-day rental. We enjoyed the sunfish for two of the days.Â
The tennis facilities were good with four courts, two being lit. I took a lesson from the pro, a former Bermuda Davis Cup member. I learned more than I should have, my pro back home has some explaining to do.Â
We also enjoyed the Ana Luna catamaran tour that leaves from their dock. The crew was great and fun to get to know.Â
The concierge was extremely helpful with every detail necessary to make the trip successful. The staff at the Grotto were mostly Bermudian, making the experience even better. One of the great features of Grotto is the location, lots to do nearby with only a short taxi or bus ride. Â The cruise ships dock at the opposite side of the island, so many don't make it this far, especially to the nearby beaches. The local bus pass is $15 per day, available at the front desk and is included in the all inclusive package. With the pass you can ride all day including the ferry. Â
Overall, a good value and a great experience. Check out the Swizzle Inn, a three minute walk out the front door!

Overall, we liked this hotel and would likely recommend it with caveats I've listed as cons. I paid for a "superior" room, but I'm not sure that's what I actually got. We had to negotiate a substantial number of stairs to get from our room to the main lobby/restaurant area. I work out every day and am in good physical health and I was winded after climbing the 51 stairs! Doesn't sound like a superior room to me! Nonetheless, the hotel had its good points as I've indicated in the "pros" section.

I'm so disappoint,my first time in Bermuda, this hotel for the money that I pay was not worth it,People are very friendly and the view are really nice, but the room quality are not so good, the TV in my room was from the 80's very small, some rooms have a flat scream TV,my oviestly was not,the smell was very strong and the wall are very thing that you can hear everything is going on in the next room,be very carefull if you are traveling with kids.I'll go back to Bermuda but not to this hotel.

My husband and I stayed at Grotto Bay for 4 nights under the All-Inclusive plan. Best decision ever! The resort was beautiful, the staff was so warm and welcoming, and given how expensive food is in Bermuda, the All-Inclusive was a good value. (Every burger and fry meal in Bermuda is at least $15 - no joke - and those are the cheapest options). In addition to food, the plan covers transportation. We rode the ferry and the buses all over the island. It is the one of the most memorable things we did. There is a cycle shop on the property which we had considered ( not part of the all-inclusive plan) but the weather was quite rainy during our stay and we didn't have a death wish. So, the bus made exploring possible.
My husband has difficulty walking so while we were aware that Bermuda isn't like the US with ADA regulations, we weren't quite prepared for the property to be as hilly and difficult to maneuver. However, the bell staff immediately made it known to us that we could call for a ride anytime to and from our oceanfront room to the lobby. I'm sure there were more accessible rooms but we wanted to be oceanfront, so their offer was gratefully accepted on several occasions. The staff was so prompt and courteous with providing this transportation. A huge thank you to them for making our stay everything we hoped it would be.
