My family and I have been coming here for years. We would stay at the ORO VERDE, the Colon, and eventually at the Crown Plaza. I mention those others not as a name dropper, but because you know in Quito, those were the hot spots and quality and almost pedigree. The days of the Crown Plaza are long gone. The Hotel remains, but staff was inattentive to our needs, they couldnt find the driver for our shuttle to the airport at 4am, although I had made mention of our need all day, and our room was noisy, our toilet leaked... we hope it was just fresh water. We didnt complain because it was one stop layer over on our way back to the US. I also felt ageism, but this may have happened all through Ecuador, but more so here. I'm young does not translate into incapable of paying for a room nor any other sort of disrespect. All in all, for one night layover its perfect. For a week in Quito, I recommend NU HOUSE in the "Mariscal District" literally inside the Plaza Foch. Very modern, hip, and BEST OF ALL, they dont treat their customers like vagabond.

The hotel is very noisy due in part to the Casino...loud music. Also, the airport noise infiltrates the building. I've stayed in many hotels around the world, and this is the first one where room service demanded cash rather than charging the room. The bathtubs are combination whirlpool and shower, which some may find appealing, but the bottom of the tub is convex, making it very difficult to stand to take a shower...be very careful. You are advised NOT to drink the water from the tap as it's not safe, but they do provide two small bottles of water per room. The heating and cooling unit is a freestanding unit taking up floor space. It's also noisy and inefficient. Checking out early in the morning took me over a half hour...only one desk clerk who was very slow.
