Our family planned a group trip to Fiji in summer of 2001. It was a wonderful trip and one that we will remember for a long time. We went at the end of June, which is the beginning of their fall. It was less crowded and the beaches seem to be pretty empty. My kids had a wonderful time in the water everyday. They had kayaks, canoes, etc for non-motorized water sports. The Shangralai Fijian is located on the coral coast and there are all sorts of coral reefs just a short swim from shore. My husband scuba dives and found Fiji to be one of the most spectacular places he has done dives at. Highly recommend it! The grounds of the resort are very beautiful and well manicured. The rooms are decent size, cleaned daily and all of them have balcony's. The one thing i noticed is that due to the humidity the rooms tend to get musty during the day, and at night we would open up our screen door and let fresh air in. The restaurants on the island are good. A little pricey, but decent food. If you decide to leave the island, and go shopping in the nearby town of Sigatoka, be prepared. There is really nothing worth buying there. We were confronted by numerous people trying to get us to go to their flea market, once in there we felt cornered and vunerable. Best to stay on Yanuca Island! We loved our stay there and would love to go back some day. We went with a group of three familys, all with teenage kids. The teenagers had the time of their life!

They do have a few shops there at the resort where you can find souveniers, sundries, native arts, etc.

Shangri-La Hotel in Fiji is beautiful and we had a great time there. LOVE the adults only pool! The activities were fun, food was pretty good as well and not too expensive for a resort. My only complaint is that in all my research, no one mentioned that the Coral Coast is the windward side of the island and gets very windy in the afternoons. Had I known that, I probably would have stayed on the sun coast or one of the Mamanuca islands, which are beautiful. But I don't have any complaints about the hotel itself. It's not hard to have a great time there.
