The hotel was a bit dated; the beds a bit old; the cooler a bit loud. We were busy and we rested. The evening happy hour was refreshing, the breakfast was wonderful and the staff were friendly. The location was great, 1 1/2 blocks from train station and downtown walking distance, which is probably what keeps the price a bit higher than others. It was a memorable trip!

Overall a good place to stay that is convient to the Railroad and downtown. Room billed as overlooking the river is a little misleading in that the river is not really visible and you are on the edge of town so it is more like a city hotel that looks out over the streets. It is not a place to stay for the view but the location close to town makes it worthwhile.

We stayed 5 days over the Christmas holiday - through Christmas. The hotel was in a great spot if you want to be downtown and the price was very reasonable. The room was very nice - no issues. I recommend it if you want to be downtown, want a microwave and refrigerator in your room, want a comfortable king bed, and at a reasonable price. The only downside were the sheets. They were not of a material that is comfortable. The other Best Western we once stayed at in Durango (Mountain Shadows Inn, or close to that name) is way at the other end of town. There, the bed was so great with quality wonderful sheets. The whole room was great, too, but a comfortable bed is valuable to me so that's why I dwell on it. The downside of that hotel is that it's so far away from the downtown area. All in all, the Best Western Rio Grande is great for what we were looking for. Oh, and the included breakfast was great, too. Much more than a basic continental breakfast. They had waffles, fruit, yogurt, biscuits, bagels, do-nuts, hard boiled eggs, not sure, but I think they had scrambled eggs, as well as gravy for the biscuits. We didn't use the pool or the health facility.
