Sad to say that the previous reviews were written when The Cloister was under old management. Me, my fiance and my mother went to the cloister for the day to look at is a possible wedding venue option. I had made an appotinment a week before, with Erin, one of the wedding coordinators at 1:30. Well, we looked at the King and Prince first, and went over to the Cloister at 1, a bit early but we were fully aware. We checked in with the concierge at 1 and let him know we had a 1:30 appointment with Erin...he said he would let her know we had arrived. We walked around on our own for a bit then waited in the foyer only to be ignored by every staff member for 20 minutes and watch women that walked in tennis outfits and be offered water and whatnot. 15 mintues past our appontment time we had to find another employee to try and contact Erin....he never showed back up so we had to find ANOTHER employee to find her. He cam back and told us that she said the appointment was at 2 and another woman woudl be helping us now. Well..if she was under the impression that our appointment was at 2...WHY DIDNT ANYONE tell us that when we first arrived and the concierge "said he was going to inform her" we were there?????? Will never go back, Absolutely beautiful place but service and employees are stuck up. -My mother even called then an hour after our appointment to politely express her irritation and how disappointed she was and still havent even received a call back.....

We spent a week at the Cloisters and could not be happier. I have read reviews where individuals were unhappy with a number of peripheral issues, leaving somewhat of a doubt in the mind of the reader. But we were not in the least unhappy with ANYTHING! The room was spectacular! With the King Size Bed and large seating area, desk and balconey, you didn't have to leave for anything but your meals. The proximatey to the beach was great, distance from the Beach club and main buildings was a long walk, but if you wanted seclusion and quiet, as we did, this was absolutely fabulous. We did not eat on site as it was quite expensive, and we wanted to get a flavour of the area. We ate mostly on the Island of St Simons and found several great cafes etc in the main townsite. (4th of May, Seaside Grill, etc) The service we received, from the time we drove in, until we left was top drawer. We felt pampered and spoiled. The butler service was always prompt and courteous. The maid service (several times daily by the way) was exceptional and invisible... we never saw them, but saw evidence that they had been there. The Beach club was amazing. Swam both in the ocean and the pools and really enjoyed them. One afternoon I spotted a pod of dolphins off the shore and swam out to get a closer look and ended up swimming with dolphins as they checked me out while I checked them out. I would highly recommend the hotel, and it now is the standard we compare all hotels/resorts to. In fact my wife and I recently were somewhere else, and we said "it's not as good as the Cloisters"! 10+
