    I spent a week at Chatham Bars Inn and it was one of the most beautiful and wonderful locations ever. Views are spectactular. Beds are most comfortable I've slept in (need to get one at home!). So much seafood on the Cape it was AWESOME to have a 5 star STEAK restaurant right in the inn. Take a boat ride to North beach. Quite walk with lots of birds to see (piping plovers, terns, etc). I honestly can't imagine a better place exists on Cape Cod.

    The room was fair, windows dirty, to dirty to see through. bad view. not at all inviting. room was amazingly over priced. would never go back.

    Our first time at Chatham Bars Inn last week was the best hotel experience we've ever had. The place is gorgeous, spotless, rooms beautiful, great value in the off season, staff is very friendly, and the food is excellent. Thank's for a great vacation! We'll be back for sure!

    Our planned stay with you was Friday, September 18th – Tuesday, September 22nd. We checked out early because our entire experience with your establishment was appalling. As per your questionnaire see following comments: Reservations- I called personally, not using online services, to select appropriate accommodations. I spoke with your representative extensively since this was our first visit to the Cape. Between the material on your website and other recommendations from travel services, I thought I was making a wise selection. However, it was obvious I did not ask the right questions, and your use of semantics confused many issues. Moreover, billing for the reservation was incorrectly handled. I requested a deluxe ocean front cottage. I was assured that I would be on the ocean with a private beach. Your establishment is on a cliff with a considerable walk to reach your private beach, any water visible is a bay, and a boat must be used to reach the Atlantic Ocean. None of these facts were mentioned. In addition, there was no mention of the Chatham fishing pier along with a working fleet of fishing boats being directly on site. Watching these boats flush fish entrails from their decks was not entertaining nor arising at 3 AM with their departures. Fins were mentioned frequently because of this practice which encourages birds and seals to be present for the banquet. Seeing what washed on your beach on the bay was repulsive. I have never seen such debris such as fish hooks/lines. It needed a good cleaning especially since you catered to families with children. Check-in: Deluxe cottages were not explained adequately either. I was on the first floor of a communal patio where you could not even sit there alone. Even cruise ships have some privacy. In addition, there was litter in the bushes that were obstructing my “ocean” view. I have never experienced a shared living room with complete strangers before nor do I care to. Return to the desk to express my utter shock and discontent with these arrangements. Spoke with the manager who assigned us a suite further from the dock with some privacy. However, she made it quite clear that this suite was considerably more expensive then what I originally paid. This remark was unnecessary and insensitive especially since you should pride yourself on SERVICE. Since we were changing rooms, we were going to lunch at your Beach restaurant. All persons at the desk at the time heard this comment, and told us it would remain open until 3 PM. Back down the stairs to find the restaurant closed at 2 PM for a wedding. Back up the stairs again to inform the desk of this happening. Manager was unaware of what was scheduled? How can you run your facility if your staff does not know what is going on? Lunch in the Tavern. Food was mediocre, temperature was never appropriate hot or cold service slow including providing bill. Room: Labeling and walking at your facility is horrendous. Parking is even worse. By the third trip to the front desk, they told us that the valet parking was in the rear of your main building. Why would your sign, your circle, not be in the FRONT of your building? Turn down at your hotel has lost meaning. Ours was offered at 5 PM while we were usually changing so that bottled water and chocolate was exchanged at the door with no other amenities offered. This was mention to the same manager, Susan, who retorted that there were many rooms to service in one evening. Do you always offer excuses for your inadequacies? Soaps and toiletries were not replaced daily. The bathroom did not have a chair or table to place personal items. Mini bar was not even stocked. As for the earlier mentioned wedding, the music and activities were so loud, we might have been a guest. Manager was told about this, loud music is required to cease by 10 PM. So if I am trying to relax prior to that time, I am only a paying customer? Concierge Services: Incorrect information was given regularly by this staff, and all of your staff, regardless of what our request. Calls were never returned. Meal Preparation: The breakfast buffet was undesirable. Fruit was particularly under or overripe. Replenishing of dishes was slow. Tarnished silver was on our table so why bother. Getting your check in any of your restaurants is painful. Our second night, we attempted to make reservations in your Main restaurant only to be told another wedding was booked. Why am I denied use of your facilities and not told? The town offers very little as an alternative so we were in the Tavern again. After 3 attempts at a wine selection, we knew it was going to be a long evening. We finally asked what was available. The portions, presentation and pricing for what you serve is shameful. None of your wait staff cares about service regardless since we dined in all your facilities. It would be nice if you varied your menu. My overall dining experience was such that I never want to look at your menu or your food again. Overall Experience: I do not know how you received a 4 star endorsement. Your facility is questionable, your service is horrific, the cleanliness is questionable, and safety is overlooked. After our brief stay with you, we checked in at the Langham. Perhaps you should experience what 4 stars should mean? You misrepresented your accommodations, your staff has a serious attitude, most of your facilities we were denied access either because of prior engagements or maintenance. No alternatives were offered or other services substituted. Prior to our early departure, all of this was mentioned to your manager who was confused by our discontent. Apparently just being on your premise, paying for nothing, and receiving nothing should be a satisfying experience? Her way of appeasing us was to refund our remaining prepaid amount and remove the daily surcharge which we left as a tip for your boat taxi driver. He is the only person on the premise who was cordial, professional, went beyond his job description and generally made us feel welcome. Perhaps you should promote him. I will be sharing this experience with everyone and anyone who will listen including the people who issue your rating.
