The place was filthy and smelt like stale cigarettes. The toilet was dirty and the shower had mold in it. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone :(

My family and I came to Newport News to visit family. I had never booked a hotel online before so I had some reservations about the quality. After all, it's very easy to make a place look good in pictures and you never really know what someone elses standards are for rating a room. I booked a double, non smoking room for the four of us. Thanks to booking online checkin was a breeze. The young lady at the counter was very professional and very polite. We got to our room and were pleasantly surprised. It was cleaner than I expected and pretty well maintained. You could tell that this is a older hotel and it seemed to be under some renovations. There were a few minor issues (a couple of small holes in the wall, a missing electrical cover behind the bed stand etc) but overall it was a pretty well maintained room. Not long after check in my family and I decided to stay an extra night. Reserving the same room for an extra night was a breeze and the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and polite. Because of the location (it's on Jefferson Ave) it wasn't as quiet as I had hoped, and the second night the guest above us and some people in the parking lot were very noisy, but this was not a problem with the hotel itself, rather the guests. The only real issue my husband and I had was the bed was way too soft. I did wake up with a sore neck because of the softness of the bed and the pillows. But overall it was a good experience. Any family who is on a tight budget will find this hotel a pleasant, affordable place to stay. When we come back to VA, we will be checking back in to the Centerstone Inn.

I have stayed at different econo lodges repeatedly (not out of choice, but because of budget problems). I always have some sort of unpleasant surprise waiting for me every time i stay there. Either the rooms are gross, the beds are all rickety and stuffj, or there are bed bugs, or spiders....i was extremely shocked this time when I arrived in Newport News expecting the worst, and it turned out to be awesome! The location was great, I was absolutely shocked when I walked into the lobby and it looked so neat and clean and professional and was greeted by a very friendly employee. she gave me advice where to go for fun, and told me of all the nearby hotspots for a night out on the town. I could literally walk to all these places! The beds were super comfy, It was really nice, and there was no unpleasant surprise. Just a pleasant one when i came down the next morning expecting some nasty coffee and some stale toast. Did not expect bagels and krispy kreme donuts! I will definitely go back. This was the best econolodge i've ever stayed at and Red Star tavern was the best bar/club I've been to in a while! So if you go there, definitely go to Red star!

This hotel was actually pretty decent. I picked it because it looked pretty nice from the outside. I walked into the lobby and was surprised because there was construction going on. The front desk guy apologized for the mess and told me that they were renovating the hotel lobby with a breakfast area. My room was clean, no frills really, but it had a comfortable bed and clean bathroom. Location is great. Good deal for the money, will probably stay again when the breakfast area is done.
