I grew up in this area & go back to visit family. That's why we are repeat visitors. While this Hampton is the best choice for the immediate area, it may not be for long. It is relatively new. We've stayed in numerous rooms (3-4x's/yr.) and the furniture is showing abuse & tacky repairs are being made-not replacement. "Some" of the front desk staff are friendly, some not. The man in the photo that tends the breakfast most of the time talks bad about people, but is friendly to you, while you are there. He is grumpy, but if you put a tip in his jar he will be nicer.
So if you are eating there, put the tip in early. The suites are very roomy. The carpets need a good steam cleaning or something. The bathrooms are pretty clean, but that tile needs to go-it looks dirty, & makes feet dirty when you walk on it -so don't. We've also stayed at County Inn, and Candlewood Suites -this Hampton is still better. Although, they can do better for the prices they charge. I haven't tried Spring Hill yet. All of Tidewater is high crime, so always watch yourself when you are out & park near busy spots & lights.
