We stayed at this hotel over spring break, and although it is quite a distance (a couple of miles) from the central part of DC, it was convenient in that the hotel had a free shuttle to Union Station. The first few days, the shuttle was very dependable. The last couple of days...not so much. HIE customers shared shuttle rides with the Fairfield Inn next door, so between them, there was a shuttle every 30 minutes. We had to wait quite a while one day at Union Station for a return shuttle, but more than likely, it was the Fairfield shuttle that was not running at that time. We had quite an ordeal on the last day, however. We waited 2 hours for the return from Union Station! Many other people from both hotels were waiting as well. I never got an explanation for the delay, but it appeared that they were running short one shuttle, and were sending a minivan that seated 6 instead of the usual bus that seats 14.
Our room was always nice and clean. However, my uncle stayed one night too. His room was not clean from the last customer when he checked in. He notified the front desk before we went to dinner, but when we returned, it still was not clean...unmade beds and dirty towels. :(
On a positive note, the hotel was new and clean, breakfast was good (free), and the staff was friendly.
Very pleasant but access to highway felt like the Bermuda Triangle!

Everything was great except getting in and out of the parking lot. I know there is nothing you can do about your location but I found it extremely frustrating just trying to buy gas or go to Taco Bell and then get back to the hotel because of the medians and corner location. They also had construction that narrowed the street from 3 lanes to one.

When I booked the hotel, I did not know that they were about 15 minutes away from the nearest Metro Station (Union Station) and was initially concerned. However, with their free shuttle to Union Station in the morning and the evening (about every 30 minutes) this rarely was an issue. The rooms were very clean, hot breakfast convenient, and staff very helpful at the front desk. As far as food, not any more "formal" sit-down restaurants around but several fast-food types just across the street.
