The hotel is very, very run down! There was what looked to be leaks on the ceiling that may or may not have been repaired. The carpet was old and smelly which caused the room to smell musty. The sheets had stains on them that looked to be fresh. We slept on the covers, thankfully we had our own blankets and pillows. The pool is way smaller then it looks on the website. I’m 5’11” and can almost touch side to side. It’s not a bad hotel to stay at if you are desperate.

  • Nicer than it first appearred.

I feel bad for some of the people that did not have a good stay at the Cowboy Inn, my family and I however stayed for 3 nights and it was great, the pool is a bit outdated but it was a decent size and clean, lots of room around the property for kids to play, the best part was the cleanliness of the rooms, micro, fridge, coffee maker and tv. It was a great location, very close to Crazy Horse and about 20 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, I would recommend this place to family and friends

Stayed here in August 2008 for five nights. Room was clean and comfortable. New window AC unit, mini-fridge, 25" TV. Room cleaned every morning. Friendly owners, decent restaurant next door, but a bit pricey for what you get. Walk down the street to the Cattleman's Steakhouse and Fish Market. Better food, a little more expensive, but well worth it. I would definitely stay at the Cowboy Inn again.

We stayed at this hotel for $ per night over the Labor Day weekend. It was a small room, but very clean and tidy. Our room had a mini-fridge and a hair dryer and a small cable TV. The beds were very hard, however. This hotel boasts of their heated pool, miniature golf course and playground. All three were extremely old, dirty and unsafe. The pool was tiny, is right on a busy street corner, NOT heated freezing! slimy and dirty. It was strangely not full about a foot below its capacity, had no markings for depth, and absolutely NO safe entry for children. It was surrounded by nasty, old furniture, and an extremely unsafe, very large old slide haphazardly perched on the edge. The playground consisted of a really old, cheap swingset. It was covered in rust and seemed very unsafe. The miniature gold course??? What a joke!! Just gross patches of grass on the corner of a very busy street. Yes, the hotel cost was low, BUT, there were lots of seemingly nice hotels advertising for $ a night, right across the street. To add insult to injury, when my husband went to check out, the employee shouted that we owed money for our children staying there, though our travel booking clearly stated 2 adults, 2 children. My husband showed him the receipt, but he didn't care and continued to be beligerent. The restaurant attached is okay, but is very over priced $ for a child's apple juice, no refills!! So my advice, is stay in a newer place, and venture out to another restaurant in Custer. We went to a nice steakhouse, that had great food and very reasonable prices, the next day.
