Orangutan Kutai National Park

I have been visiting the interior of Borneo jungle at East Kalimentan with Jumri since 2015-- four years now. We travel into Busang to visit the Dayak village of Mekar Baru. It's quite the trip and Jumri is quite the navigator. He's a conscientious, hard working guide with a great sense of humor. The Dayak people at Mekar Baru love him which makes our journeys all the more special. Canoeing up river to visit special sites and accompany Dayak villagers on fishing trips -- it's all pretty amazing. We've also traveled to Kutai National Park to see the orangutans which was breath taking. Jumri has to be the number one guide of East Kalimentan.

We have done a tour for 8 days on the Mahakam river and Kutai park. Our guide Jumree was 24/7 with us. He has made our trip worthwhile with his translation (not so many people can speak English), knowledge about the area, his enthusiasm and flexibility. We have done the things which were mentioned at the tour scheme but there was also space for spontanious things. Like visiting a boedha temple in Samarinda and discussing with the local people about, for example the Dutch influences on the region in 1946-1951 (we are Dutch, so for us that was interesting).
We certainly recommend this region and Jumree as a guide! February, 2017
