The Gables is located in a residential area near the University of Pennsylvania. It is located on the trolley line and only 12 minutes from center city Philadelphia and about 15 minutes from the historic area and museums. There is off street parking available on the premises.
This beautiful 10 bedroom home has been restored over the last 8 years and has won awards for historic preservation and also for hospitality. Philadelphia Magazine has awarded it "Best of Philly: Best urban get-away" The Gables has also been featured in the December 2002 issue of Victorian Homes Magazine. It is truly one of the first and one of the finest bed and breakfasts in Philadelphia.
Besides the antiques, each room is complete with private phones, cable television, fine linens and plush towels. A full breakfast is served each morning in the formal dining room. Many guests enjoy the magnificent wrap-around porch that surrounds nearly half the house. In addition to innkeeping, the owners also enjoy gardening and share their pleasures with the guests.
The Gables is a three story red brick Queen Anne style Victorian mansion with magnificent wrap-around porch. The front entrance and foyer has chestnut woodwork and wainscoat throughout while the parlors all are trimmed in cherry. Each room has special intricate in-lay floors and oriental style carpets. The owners have been collecting antiques for years. You'll find very few reproduction pieces, except where necessity dictates.
The Gables is 10-15 minutes from the airport. It is a $20 taxi ride or $9 per person by Lady Liberty Shuttle Service which brings you right to the door.
From the train station it is 5-10 minutes by taxi or by subway. You must catch the SEPTA Subway Surface Car Green line #13 trolley heading westbound and get off at the corner of 46th and Chester Avenue.
By Car, take Route 76 and exit at #342A, South Street, Go through the University of Pennsylvania to 42nd Street, turn left for 3 blocks, turn right at the stop sign onto Chester Avenue and proceed to the corner of 46th and Chester. The driveway is off of 46th Street.
