Maine's Katahdin Region is an outdoor lovers paradise. It is home to Baxter State Park, a 240,000 acre wilderness preserve whose centerpiece is mile high Mt. Katahdin. In Baxter you can climb mountains, walk on forested trails and sit at ponds and watch the moose feed. The West Branch of the Penobscot River offers some of the best whitewater rafting on the East Coast and is renowned for it's salmon fishing. The Debsconeag Lakes Wilderness area is owned by the Nature Conservancy and offers tremendous back country hiking opportunities. Gulf hagas, the "Grand Canyon of Maine" is just down the road as is the State owned Nahmakanta Reserve, another great hiking /canoeing destination.

From exit 244 on I-95 (Medway/Millinocket exit) head west on Rt. 157/11. Stay on Rt.157/11 thru the small towns of Medway and E. Millinocket. Where 157 ends in Millinocket, turn hard left and stay on 11. About 1/2 mile later, Rt.11 turns hard right and goes up a long hill. Proceed west about 6 miles still on 11. When you cross the railroad tracks, put on your right blinker and turn onto Fire Road #4. Follow it into our parking area.
