Guide to Casares on the Costa del Sol

Casares is a beautiful, tiny town in the Costa del Sol with a long and rich history. Its roots go right back to Roman times, and it also has a strong Moorish heritage, which can be seen through a variety of interesting monuments and the striking architecture on display throughout the town.

Nestled on a hill, the delightful white houses spread right up to the very top where the crown of the settlement, the castle, is situated. This castle can be reached following a steep walk up the quaint streets, and although it is not much more than a ruin it is well worth a look. Nearby the castle at the top of the hill is the dilapidated but charming Iglesia de Encarnacion, a church dating back to the 16th century, and from here views across the valley below can be enjoyed.

There are a number of interesting things to do within the town itself. The Ethnographic Museum is one such activity, which includes interesting displays harking back to Roman times. The Roman heritage is enhanced through the common knowledge in the region that it was near this town that Julius Caesar was said to have been cured of a liver problem in the sulphur baths.

The centre point of the town is Plaza de Espana, a delightful square which includes a few quaint little restaurants and a fountain that provides pure drinking water. We would also recommend a trip to the village church of San Sebastian, which is situated right next to the Plaza de Espana, and is a small but charming building which boasts some stunning stained-glass windows.

There are a number of picturesque bars throughout the town, but it is primarily a peaceful settlement which does not attract a busy nightlife. However, the town is well catered for in terms of restaurants, and you will be able to enjoy plenty of different cuisines in a number of delightful establishments.

Casares is popular due to its beauty. The pure white houses and the calm and peaceful air of tranquillity mean that, although it attracts a number of tourists who visit to enjoy its calming properties, it still manages to hold onto its unique heritage and is a beautiful place to live. And although beautiful in the day, when it is lit up at night it is nothing short of spectacular.

Fairs are also important in Casares, and the major annual celebration takes place on the first weekend in August. Another important celebration takes place in the first week of September, and marks the day of the patron saint, the Virgen del Rosario.

Shopping is fairly basic, with no supermarkets in the town, but all of the essentials are catered for. However, for some more serious shopping we would recommend that you take a trip to the nearby settlement of Laguna Village.

As it is situated in the mountains, Casares itself does not have any beaches of its own. However, it is not difficult to find beaches within a short distance from the town, and Playa Ancha is perhaps the nearest and most beautiful of the beaches on offer.

Walking around the town is an activity in itself. Although steep in parts, the views from the various miradores are spectacular and you can spend plenty of the time wondering around and enjoying the scenery. We would describe it is a place where people choose to live to escape the fast pace of normal life, and to get back to something a bit more peaceful in a stunningly-beautiful setting.

Each Finca enjoys total privacy with its own amenities. For large families, all of the 5 properties can be rented together. The properties are spread apart within the beautiful territory of exotic gardens giving total privacy and comfort to each party. Each house has stunning views over Gybraltar and African coast. Every property has its own private garden and chill out area with dining facilities. Stunning heated Infinity Pool 15x5 meters is available for the sole of the guests on a daily basis until 7pm. Sauna, steam room,gym and tennis court are of exclusive and complimentary usage of guests. At extra charge the clients can enjoy Spa treatments during their stay by the pool area.

Each client will be given complimentary slippers and bathrobe during their stay.

Casa Pino and Casa Oleandro have private plunge pools!

The Fincas are intended for romantic breaks, for couples or families who wish to enjoy a total get away within private setting. This Retreat has been designed mainly for adults but we are happy to accept children over the age of 14 years old. We have numerous Spa packages and special offers so please feel free to enquire. All of the properties come with comlimentary use of hairdryers, beach towels, bathrobes and slippers which will hopefully help you make your luggage lighter! Each Finca has a small wine cellar so you could enjoy a nice collection of wines at modest prices. If you prefer to have totally relaxing experience then we would be happy to serve you food on a daily basis. We have a library of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs for you to enjoy during your stay.

Finca Pino
Finca Pino is a beautiful fully refurbished cozy Finca with stunning sea views. Finca consists of one double bedroom with TV, DVD and CD equipment, beauty area, bathroom with shower, wc with bidet, walk in wardrobe and compact kitchen with all of the necessary appliances including coffee machine and microwave. Finca has its own private tropical garden with fountain and sunloungers to relax in the sun. Spacious covered terrace has dining table and chairs with panoramic views to enjoy dinner under the stars. Spacious shaded patio has chill out sofa to relax in the shade. Heated infinity swimming pool with Spa facilities is located 1 minute walk along exotic gardens. Finca Pino is air conditioned. Casa Pino has private plunge pool.

Finca Oleandro
Finca Oleandro is a brand new 2 storey property that enjoys elevated position on the hill. Absolutely stunning views over the mountains and the sea. Finca Oleandro has one double bedroom with CD player and home cinema system, cozy living area with sofa,minibar, bathroom with shower, wc with bidet and small kitchen with necessary appliances including coffee machine and microwave. There is a private garden with private bath and private plunge pool, dining table and chill out zone with sofa. Heated infinity pool with Spa facilities and tennis court are located 30 seconds walk away from the door step. Finca Oleandro has air fans. This property ideally accommodates two people but 1-2 more tenants can stay upon extra charge.

Finca Cipres
Finca Cipres is the smallest Finca and it is ideal for romantic break or honeymoon celebration. It enjoys elevated position on hill providing it with breath taking views of African coast and mountains. This property consist of 1 bedroom with CD and home cinema system, minibar, bathroom and wc with bidet. It has cozy private garden with dining table and chill out zone. For couples who prefer a care free holiday without having to worry about cooking, then breakfast, light lunch or dinner could be served on a daily basis for them from our delicious menu. Finca Cipres has air fans.

Casa Adelfa is a spacious Casa with 2 bedrooms, bathroom, mini kitchen an dprivate bathroom. Casa Adelfa accommodates up to 4 clients. Casa Adelfa has air fans.

Casa Olivo is our most stunning and exotic property. It has 2 bedroom,s 2 bathrooms, living room with plasma TV, large kitchen and 3 private terraces for dining, sun bathing and drinks. Casa Olivo has air con.

Guests can enjoy private heated infinity pool, steam room, sauna, gym and tennis court during theur stay. We also have an on -site Spa for those who love being pampered.

Several great restaurants are only 2-7 minutes drive away frok the door step.

We have a lovely Spa menu with great treatments to offer you durinfg your stay. If you would like a tailored Spa pakage with your accommodation, we have a variety of Spa package to purchase together with your chosen property. If you would like to have pilates or yoga session during your stay we will be happy to organize it for you.

Clients can choose to stay with us on self-catering or Hotel basis. Hotel type accommodation will include: breakfast, everyday cleaning of the house and teritorry, bedding change every 3 days, daily fuit basket, ice basket, mineral water brought daily and tea with sweets. Those clients who choose to stay on self-catering basis can still order breakfast on pay as you go service on any required days.
