Special Event
Paradise Ride is a 7-day, 4-island, 360-mile bicycling event to raise funds for the Life Foundation, Hawaii's oldest and largest AIDS service organization. The event is wholly organized and managed by the benefitting agency. The Life Foundation provides case management services, counseling and direct assistance to more than 520 HIV positive men, women and children in Hawaii, and prevention outreach and confidential HIV testing in the community.
When/Where/How Long
Paradise Ride begins on the island of Oahu on Saturday, July 20th with rider check-in and welcome. The first day's ride is on Sunday, July 21st beginning in Waikiki northward along Oahu's windward coast. We fly to Kauai for days two and three where we ride along Kauai's windward coast from Lihue to Hanalei and back. We fly to Maui for day four, riding along Maui's northwest coastline through Lahaina and returning to Kahului. We fly to Hilo on the Big Island of Hawaii and ride north along the Hamakua coast to Honokaa for day five. Day six is spent riding through Paniolo country and down through the lava fields to Kailua-Kona for closing celebration. Day seven in Kona is for final goodbyes and departure. Air travel and bicycle transport is provided by Aloha Airlines.
Policies & Restrictions
No pets! Riders must be at least 18 years of age to participate or must be accompanied by parent or guardian.
Rates
Registration fee of $300 covers interisland airfare once the event begins, air transport of bicycle during the event, first night hotel in Honolulu and final night in Kona. All other nights are camping nights. Meals and snacks are provided. By registering, each participant agrees to fundraise a total of $2,500. This $2,500 fundraising requirement is 100% tax deductible as it benefits the Life Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
Availability
The event is limited to 150 individuals. As of March 13, 2002, 67 spaces are available. Registrations are accepted through July 1, 2002.
Other Information
Paradise Ride is a totally supported event (on-road support vehicles, medical support).
Participants are required to provide their own air transportation to and from Honolulu for the event. Participants need to bring tent, sleeping bag, bicycle, bicycle helmet, personal cycling attire and personal hygiene items.
