What's it like?
The hostel can accommodate 55 people in private rooms and dormitories. All bed-linen is provided. Towels are provided in the private rooms.
The hostel was built in 1997 and is quiet, comfortable and clean.
The hostel has a reception desk with local tourism & transport info, a large common room with free wi-fi, TV, table football and board games. There is also a self catering kitchen, a laundry, a drying room for wet clothes, a store for bicycles and a store for left luggage.
What can I do there?
Within 8km of the hostel is Bunratty Castle and Folk Park and Cragganowen Celtic village. Also nearby are Forest Parks, a Walking Route over the Clare Hills and Horse Riding Stables. We can also organise day long bus tours of the Burren.
What's in Sixmilebridge?
Sixmilebridge is a small village and has shops, a post office, a pharmacy, a library with free internet access, a bank with currency exchange, an ATM, 5 restaurants and 7 pubs!
Sixmilebridge is famous for producing winning hurling teams and has a traditional and folk music club.
It's owned by a multinational with the HQ in some tax haven, right?
Wrong! The owners are Michael & Nuala who gave up their jobs and houses in Dublin and came to Clare for a different life. They, with their two dogs (Bob and Marley), offer a warm welcome to all their visitors alike.
By car - Take the N19 from the airport. Take the N18 in the direction of Limerick. After 2km, turn off the N18 and follow signs for Sixmilebridge. In Sixmilebridge, follow the signs for the Jamaica Inn.
The total distance to the hostel is 12km.
By bus - Buses leave the airport for Sixmilebridge at the following times:
Mon - Sat: 07.55, 10.20
Sun: - no bus
The bus arrives in Sixmilebridge 25 mins later. The bus fare is about 4.50 euro. Get off the bus at 'The Square' in Sixmilebridge. The bus stop is about 200m from Jamaica Inn. There is a sign near the bus stop pointing the way to the hostel.
By taxi - The airport taxi rank is outside the arrivals building. The normal fare is 25 euro. If you book via the Jamaica Inn, the fare is 18 euro.
TO GET FROM LIMERICK TO THE JAMAICA INN:
By car - Take the N18 in the direction of Galway/Ennis/Shannon Airport. After about 10 km, turn off the N18 and follow signs for Sixmilebridge. The hostel is signposted from Sixmilebridge centre. The total distance from Limerick to the hostel is 16km.
By bicycle - Take the old Cratloe road which runs parallel to and east of the N18 to Cratloe village. From there follow the signposted road to Sixmilebridge
By bus - Buses leave Limerick bus station for Sixmilebridge at the following times:
Mon - Fri: 07.00, 13.10, 14.35, 16.15, 17.30
Sat: - 07.00, 13.10, 14.35, 17.30
Sun: - no bus
The bus arrives in Sixmilebridge 30 mins later. The bus fare is about 5 euro. Get off the bus at 'The Square' in Sixmilebridge. The bus stop is about 200m from Jamaica Inn. There is a sign near the bus stop pointing the way to the hostel.
By train: there are 10 trains per day to Sixmilebridge. See Irish Rail website for times. Fare is 8 euro. The station is 600m from the Jamaica Inn.
By taxi - cost is 25 to 30 euro.
TO GET FROM GALWAY or ENNIS TO THE JAMAICA INN:
By car - Take the N18/M18 in the direction of Limerick/Shannon Airport. 2km past the Shannon Airport exit, turn off the N18/M18 and follow signs for Sixmilebridge. The hostel is signposted from Sixmilebridge centre.
By bus - There is no direct bus. Take a bus to Limerick bus station and from there, take a bus to Sixmilebridge. For times, see directions from Limerick above.
By train: there are 10 trains per day to Sixmilebridge. See Irish Rail website for times. Fare is about 17 euro from Galway. The station is 600m from the Jamaica Inn.
By taxi - Forget it!. It's too expensive!
