Unfortunately, I got stuck with a room with windows only on one side, so the room was very dark. (Ask for a room with windows on both sides so you can get a lot of natural light.) You do get your money's worth with this room -- Small fridge, cupboards for food and paper plates and a small sofa. The room was very clean. I didn't like the placement of lighting. It was very dark, even in the middle of the day. However, as I mentioned before, I did get a corner room with only two windows. Breakfast is served in the morning. And, there are some very healthy places to eat across the street including a Rubio's and an organic food mart.

Stayed the third week of February, 2012. Very pleased, recommend this hotel. The design of the hotel is unusual but not unpleasant, possibly a Mediterranean style. Stayed in a basic room, #204, on the south side. Our room had a mini-fridge, microwave, and sink like a mini kitchen, and a sitting room with a sofa.
It's on Sepulveda, a major north - south street in LA county, and about 4 miles south of LAX, and the area seemed very safe. It's a little hard to notice from the street: watch for the signs. Free parking under the hotel (enter off Sepulveda at south end of hotel.) Chili's, Olive Garden, and Ralph's market are a 5 minute walk north, and Target just south. The beach is farther, a mile or so west. It's not close to a lot of LA area attractions, but in LA, everything is spread out anyway.
The free breakfast is above average, AND in the evening they have veggies, snacks, and beverages in the dining room; Dining room a little small (but aren't they all?) I guess sitting outside in the courtyard is an option, but too chilly for that when we were there.
Wife says, "It was very clean and good value for what we paid. When we checked in at about 6:30 pm, there were no other guest checking in but front desk clerk seemed very prompt and swift. I got the feeling she didn't like her phone conversation interrupted. Daytime front desk person was welcoming and informative."

Don't be put off by the outward appearance as it is a flat structure right on Sepulveda Blvd. Our king room was wonderful with plenty of room, a great bed, micro and refrigerator. The breakfast was good with plenty of choices. We enjoyed the closeness to the beach and yet our drives to UCLA and USC for basketball games was not too far at all.
