My college daughter and I decided to have a quick 4 day getaway before she's off to school. She picked this one because Fairmont Hotels are our favorite and this one is no exception. She picked it because of the beach and shopping and we had plenty of that. The hotel was beautiful, clean, quiet and the staff was exceptionally friendly and took care of all of our needs. There was a free shuttle to and from John Wayne airport and also to Fashion Island, Balboa Island and Corona Del Mar Beach. The shuttle was great but you have to make a reservation and stick with their shuttle schedule and they don't wait if your late so be on time! We loved shopping and eating at Fashion Island, it is a wonderful huge, up-to-date shopping mall with plenty of restaurants and a movie theater (we didn't go to the theater but heard it was large, new and could order appetizers) We loved Balboa Island where my daughter enjoyed buying a lot of beach wear and some clothes in the everything $15 or less stores (I even got a dress), the ferry, ferris wheel, frozen chocolate covered bananas and restaurants. Then we went to Corona Del Mar Beach in the morning and took a nice walk along the beach which was nice, luckily because it was very crowded in the late afternoon but was a great beach for swimming and families. And walked a few blocks to the Sherwood Library and Gardens and had a nice lunch in a beautiful garden setting. They even have tea service the first Wednesday of the month, we tried to book it because we went on a Wednesday but it was sold out so book in advance. The garden is small (takes about 30 min to 1 hour to view) beautiful and we enjoyed the touch and smell sensory garden, roses and the large cactus. One day we took the shuttle over to Fashion Island and then took a cab to Laguna Beach to save money on the cab fare (it was about $15) and went to Laguna Beach, the Saw Dust Festival to buy homemade jewelry and in the evening we went to see the Pagent of the Masters (we got tickets at the Fairmont concierge desk for $10.00 each half off) we ate at Tivoli-too (recommended by concierge) for dinner before the show it has a beautiful garden setting and waterfall that we took a nice photo of the two of us and ate dinner outside (call and make reservation). We took a free trolley all around Laguna Beach area throughout the day but took a cab about $23 back to the hotel in the evening but well worth it, for the convenience of not driving, paying parking, etc. It was well worth not renting a car since it would have cost the same amount we spent in cab fee. The whole trip we didn't rent a car and saved $28 a night that we would have paid for valet parking. We found that transportation via free shuttles, buses ($1.50 each, clean, safe and convenient that you can access the bus schedule via your phone) , walking and free trolleys were all we needed.
We didn't eat at our hotel except for room service since there are so many restaurants nearby to go to but when we wanted a midnight snack of nachos and ice cream, although it wasn't on the menu, they whipped it up and delivered it to us and it was delicious! All in all, great service at a great classic hotel.

Ok hotel/Cleaning ok. Beds very comfortable.k hotel/staff nice & friendly/room sufficient with small fridge This is a good hotel for a business traveler/president's club is free internet. Ok for family but no activities for family except pool fun. They did provide free shuttle to malls. If your going to stay here a rental car would be best if you are going places. Taxi cost is about same a $ spent on a rental car for a whole day which provides more options. Required valet parking is the only option :-( Limited restaurant menu but a deli & coffee places a short walk.
Very nice hotel. Conveniently located, good service and accomodations at a fair

I enjoyed my stay at the Fairmont in June 2012. Stayed there while spending a couple of vacation days with my son in So.Cal - beach time etc.
Good restaurants near by in Newport Beach area. Very easy access to Newport beach fron and Balboa island, great shopping etc.
An unexpected nice feature was that valet parking, normally $28 per night, is comped if you have a hybrid, which I did.
Will stay there again next time in So Cal.

The hotel is one of Newport's hidden treasures. It's only 15 minutes away from the beach plus numerous restaurants and other attractions. The staff was extremely accommodating and the hotel room itself was clean and welcoming. The amenities offered defiantly made you feel like you were in a place of luxury with the bar, spa and private cabanas pool side yet the price was more than reasonable. My only complaint was that you have to park via valet and its a nightly cost to do so. Other than that the hotel was great.
