You would think by the name of the hotel, that you were booking somthing really special...well...it's far from special. It's below average. $20.00 resort fee to cover a non existant "Free WiFi". When you call the staff to ask why the WiFi is not working, you're told, "Well it doesn't really work that good with your device, you know, the iPhone, iPad etc..." No real value for the high price. Very far from any "Napa to St. Helena", restaurants or activities. Shuttle runs every half hour, but you can't catch one home after 10p. You're better off staying in Yountville or St Helena. From there, you could at least walk to and from the heart of the valley. The name "Meritage" usually means haritage or highend...not in this case.

First, I would like to say that Raphael, a waiter at the Siena (restaurant inside The Meritage) is amongst an elite group of professionals this place offers. He was genuinly polite and respectful, a quality that is sometimes if not most times forgotten, and unfortunately I see it a lot in customer service these days. He offered great advice on the menu, we did not feel rushed whatsoever, and in the end I had witnessed a true professional at work. Great experience to a great weekend at The Meritage.

Although the resort is outside of town, it is a beautiful place and perfectly located between Napa and Sonoma. There is a bus that takes guests into Napa although we did not use it. The facilities were beautiful and the rooms very clean and comfy. They even have a complimentary bottle of wine in your room. We could look out our window over the pool and vineyard - a gorgeous view. We had a nice breakfast at the restaurant and enjoyed drinks at the bar. Compared to the many other resort rates at the time we stayed, this was a great deal. I wish we could have had a day to stay at the hotel and enjoy the pool, etc. We've stayed in fabulous places all over the world and enjoyed this place. When visiting the Napa Valley, we love to stay in the quaint little towns where you can walk, but we would definitely stay here again.

The hotel iteself is lovely. The grounds are lovely and the staff is fabulous. We felt pampered from the moment we walked in until the moment we left. The staff seems genuine in their desire for you to enjoy yourself--it doesn't feel like forced friendliness, but rather very sincere. Our coffeepot in our room leaked (onto the bathroom towels) and within 5 minutes housekeeping was at our door with not only fresh towels, but a replacement coffee pot and coffee packets. We enjoyed a wonderful massage during our stay and the spa area is delightul. My only qualm was the "resort fee" they tack on at the end. $15/night and we couldn't really figure out what it was for. Anything at the spa costs quite a pretty penny and the wine tastings also cost money. A resort fee would be expected if these amenities were free. The only explanation we got for the fee was usage of the pool and workout room, which if I'm not mistaken is free at most hotels. The weather was chilly when we were there and I never saw anyone in the pool our whole visit so why the extra $45 on our 3 night stay? To me it would've felt less like I was being ripped off if the room itself just cost $* more a night than to add a silly fee at the end that feels like it's for nothing. Our room was also dreadfully hot and none of the 4 of us slept a night through without waking up sweating. The temp control knob in our room did very little. We ended up having to turn the A/C on when it was only 40 degrees outside because although heat was set to 65, it soared to 75 in the night.
