Directions

When using Budapest's public transportation, make sure you buy tickets beforehand. They cost 320 forints per ride, and are available at the airport and every metro station, also at newsagent's and vending machines. A single ticket is valid for one uninterrupted trip without change on BKV bus, tram, underground, trolleybus, cogwheel railway services on the whole length of the lines but on HÉV suburban railway only within the administrative boundaries of Budapest. But during the time of validity you can change lines within the metro network (metro lines 1, 2 or 3). It doesn't entitle you to an interrupted trip or for a return trip. On the metro lines, tickets have to be validated before starting your trip and on other vehicles immediately after boarding. You can use them for 60 minutes after stamping, and on the night service for 120 minutes. The ticket has to be presented and handed over on the request of a ticket inspector. A 10-piece discount coupon book is also available for 2,800 forints. Alternatively, if you intend to stay longer, you may opt for a Budapest card or a pass.

You may learn more about the public transport system of Budapest, with all the current timetables and the ticket and pass options with all sorts of additional information at: http://www.bkv.hu/en/ and about the Budapest card here: http://www.budapest-card.com/blue-card.html
