Our bed & breakfast guest house is located in a relaxed and quiet area above the village of Bayerisch Eisenstein (724m), on the lower slopes of Grosser Arber (1456m), in the Bavarian Forest. The Forest is an area of outstanding natural beauty, situated in the South East of Germany, on the border with the Czech Republic, close to Austria and the River Danube. Halfway between Munich and Prague, which along with Salzburg, Regensburg, Nuremberg and Passau, are less the 3 hours drive away. The village of Bayerisch Eisenstein has restaurants, basic shops, local railway museum, the only railway station in Europe shared by 2 countries, (the border runs through the centre of the station building), glassworks, tennis courts, mini golf, and park with pond and children's play ground.

Gästehaus am Berg has 13 spacious and comfortable en-suite bedrooms, most with balconies with views of the village and beyond. It is within easy walking distance of the village centre, with all its amenities, the German/Czech border and only 5 minutes drive to the ski lifts & ski schools. Walking, cycling and cross-country ski trails start within 100 metres of the guesthouse. The Bavarian National Park is a few minutes walk from the guesthouse and the Arber mountain cable car is a few minutes drive away. The cable car operates for most of the year

Directions

Bayerisch Eisenstein is easy to reach from the UK. It takes about 10 hours to drive here from Calais and 2 hours by car from Munich, Prague or Linz airports and 3 hours from Salzburg airport.
A car is not essential. There are good local bus and train services and some great deals on fares, including free local bus and train travel for duration of stay, under the GUTi scheme (bayerwald-ticket.com).
We are happy to collect guests from and return them to the village station, if required.

The Gastehaus is only 10-15 minutes walk from the station at Bayerisch Eisenstein. There are hourly trains to Plattling, where there are connections to inter-city trains. From Bayerisch Eisenstein trains run once an hour, from approximately 4am until about 9pm each day.

If you are walking from the station, come out the front of the building and turn left. Take the 1st right down the hill, Hohenzollerstrasse. Cross the road at the pedestrian crossing to the left of the junction, and follow the zigzag footpath uphill. Follow this path to the T-junction at the top (about 100 meters), (in the summer, there are a number of seats on the way up, for admiring the view). Turn left at the T-junction and take the next road on the left. Follow the road round to the right, we are the third house on the right.
