History:

The Leo Courtyard is much more than just a hostel with a great location. This famous Ming/Qing Dynasty courtyard has over 350 years of history and is a government protected structure. It is a main feature of all historic tours in the area, with visitors (non-guests) having to pay an entrance fee. The courtyard is most famous for being a former socialising venue for Beijing's rich elite, and sometimes even the emperor himself. In the evenings, hostesses would serve traditional meals and drinks, with musicians & performers in the background.

The courtyard is also famous for its romantic love story, where the famous General Cai-E and the beautiful hostess Xiao-Feng-Xian first met and fell in love. In fact, their love story is so famous that even a national TV series has been made about it!

The Leo Courtyard is now open for guests to stay. So during your stay in Beijing, don't just stay in a normal hostel, come join us and soak up the ancient atmosphere, and have a truly historic stay!

Introduction:

The Leo Courtyard is the larger sister hostel of the well-known nearby Leo Hostel (recommended by the Lonely Planet for over 4 years now). Our location is a short walk from Tiananmen Square and the subway. We are located in a hutong (ancient streets) area, with a residential quarter and market quarter, so there's lots to see and do (we can give you a free local area map when you arrive). We are a large hostel with lots of space to spread out, so it is quite a relaxed atmosphere amongst our guests - ideal to 'take a break from travelling' and lounge around with other guests. Having said that, with our famous Leo Movie World (hundreds of classic and new movies to watch) and our bar/restaurant (with beer/cocktail specials), there's also a chance to meet new friends and make your own party!

As we are a large hostel, we are one of the cheapest hostels in the area, offering basic and standard budget rooms, and discounts can also be offered to long term guests. DIRECTIONS TO BEIJING LEO COURTYARD

** PLEASE READ THESE DIRECTIONS FULLY TO AVOID ANY PROBLEMS GETTING TO THE HOSTEL. PLEASE REMEMBER TO PRINT OUT OUR MAP (IN OUR PHOTOS SECTION) - IT HAS OUR CHINESE ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBERS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A PRINTER YOU COULD ALSO TRACE THE MAP AND ADDRESS ONTO A PIECE OF PAPER ;)

Please note: We have not changed all of the hostel name signs yet, so you can also look out for signs saying SHANGLIN HOSTEL (the previous name)**

DIRECTIONS FROM THE BEIJING INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:

1) Book a taxi pick-up from us. We can pick you up at the airport for 240rmb per car (fits up to 3 passengers) (from 10pm to 7am, there will be an extra 50rmb charge). If you are interested, please provide ALL of the following details: arrival date, arrival time, flight number, airline, departure city.

Please book your pick-up at least 48 hours in advance. If your flight arrives within 48 hours, please phone the hostel to give us your details.

2) Take the shuttle bus to the Beijing city center (the journey takes over 1 hour). There are different shuttle buses but it is best to take the bus to the main Beijing train station (16rmb). The bus stops about 200 meters west of the Beijing station. When you get off the bus. continue walking straight (in the direction of the bus) to arrive at Beijing station. For directions from the station, please read below.

3) Take the new shuttle train from Terminal 2 or 3 to Dongzhimen subway station (25rmb). Then change to subway line 2 and take the subway to the Qianmen stop, then follow the map.

DIRECTIONS FROM THE MAIN BEIJING TRAIN STATION: (trains arriving from Shanghai, Mongolia, Russia etci )

1) Take the bus. Leave the station by the north exit, walk right (east) about 500 meters to the bus park and take bus 20 or 59 to the Qianmen stop (1rmb). When you get off the bus, walk south (in the direction to the bus) and then turn right on to Da Zha Lan Xi Jie market walking street. Then walk for about 300 meters and you will see Leo Hostel on the left. Continue walking straight until you get to a fork in the road. Take the left road and then take the second turning on the left. Ahead is Leo Courtyard, on the left hand side. Please remember to print out our map, or even make a hand-copy!

2) Take the subway. The subway is outside of the train station, 500 meters left (West) of the main exit. Take the subway to the Qianmen subway station - 3rmb. Leave the subway by Exit C and head towards Meishi Jie Road (you can see the 'GUANQI HOTEL' on the corner). Walk south on Meishi Jie Road about 500 meters (to the McDonalds) then turn right on to Da Zha Lan Xi Jie market street. Then walk for about 300 meters and you will see Leo Hostel on the left. Continue walking straight until you get to a fork in the road. Take the left road and then take the second turning on the left. Ahead is Leo Courtyard, on the left hand side. Please remember to print out our map, or even make a hand-copy!

DIRECTIONS FROM THE BEIJING WEST TRAIN STATION:
(trains arriving from Xii An, Chengdu, Pingyao, Datong, Hong Kong etci )

1) Leave by the North exit & take bus 67 from in front of the station (opposite a KFC). You need to get on at the front of the bus and put 1rmb in the drivers box. The bus ends at Qianmen (next to a KFC!). When you get off the bus, continue walking East for about 200 meters (in the same direction as the bus). Follow the road round to the right and look for Meishi Jie Road (you can see the 'GUANQI HOTEL' on the corner). Walk south on Meishi Jie Road about 500 meters (to the McDonalds) then turn right on to Da Zha Lan Xi Jie market street. Then walk for about 300 meters and you will see Leo Hostel on the left. Continue walking straight until you get to a fork in the road. Take the left road and then take the second turning on the left. Ahead is Leo Courtyard, on the left hand side. Please remember to print out our map, or even make a hand-copy!

2) Leave by the North exit, walk 10 minutes North to the Military Museum (Junshi Bowuguan) subway station. Take the subway to the Fuxingmen station and then change to subway line 2 and take the subway to the Qianmen station - 3rmb. (see above for directions from Qianmen subway station)
