Our neighbourhood is lively. Nevsky with its 24-hour action is 5 minutes' walk away; 3 metro stations are 3-5 minutes from us; the Dostoevsky Museum is just around the corner; and there's a whole street of some of the most varied bars, cafes, and restaurants in the city just the other side of Vladimir Cathedral. Yet, when you enter our courtyard, the pace changes: all the bustle of the street falls away - leaving classical columns (the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic - actually, an old church), space in which to think, and the wonderful Petersburg light.

Our guesthouse is a former priest's apartment, which we have restored and gently adapted.

There are four double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, view, and distinctive character. In addition, we have allowed for a generous amount of public space. The dining-room and bar area are for quick cups of coffee, long unhurried breakfasts, leisurely pots of tea, the occasional business meeting, or just for sitting around in.

Directions

Our address is ul. Marata 22-24, apt. 38.

Directions from the airport:

Minibuses and buses leave from outside the arrivals building. All services head for Moskovsky prospekt and the centre of town. The bus will take you down a three-lane highway ( 5 minutes' ride) and then round a large and gloomy square with a forbidding stele in the centre and into a built-up area. This is the beginning (or end) of Moskovsky prospekt, and at this point you should start looking for metro stations. There are three along the length of this avenue and any one of them will do. There's one almost immediately after the square, called Moskovskaya (Московская). The others are Park pobedy (Парк победы) and Elektrosila (Электросила). Once inside the metro station, buy some metal tokens at 17 rubles per token (if your baggage is bulky, you'll probably have to buy an extra token for that as well) and take the train to Technologichesky institut (Технологический институт‚), where you change (this is 5, 4, or 3 stops respectively from the above stations). To change, simply cross over to the other side of the platform. Travel two stops to Vladimirskaya (Владимирская). Go up the escalator. When you come out of the station entrance, turn right into a sidestreet (Kuznechny pereulok) that runs down past the side of the cathedral. Go past the first turning to your right. At the next crossroads (intersection of Kuznechny and ulitsa Marata), you will find yourself facing a large columned building . Now you're almost there. Our apartment is in the courtyard between this old church (now the Museum of the Arctic and Antarctic) and the six-storey house that stands next to it. The courtyard entrance has tall metal gates framing a smaller pedestrian gate. Walk through into the courtyard and head for the far left corner, where there are steps leading up to a brown metal door, where you should press the following characters into the key panel: *37529#. Walk up to the third floor. Our apartment is the grey door on the left (No. 38).

Alternatively, we can arrange transfers (35 euros per car).
