GringoWasi is a unique bed and breakfast offering a quiet small town experience just 30 min. from Cusco, perfect for relaxing and refueling. Our home is in Huarocondo, conveniently located between Cusco and Ollantaytambo.
This small town is nestled in a beautiful valley with a population of approximately 5,000 people, Huarocondo provides a welcomed change of pace for travelers looking to escape the tourist vibe of Cusco and enjoy a peaceful night's rest.
The property is owned and operated by Lyle & Lily an American/Peruvian couple that relocated to the Cusco region to operate a bed and breakfast. Lyle is originally from southern California and most recently lived in Las Vegas, Lily is originally from Lima, Peru and lived in the US for 12 years, the two met in Las Vegas, fell in love and were married.
Not long after their first trip together to Lily's home country of Peru, the two started to make plans to move there permanently. In early 2012 the couple took a trip to Cusco and purchased the property with the intention of converting it into a bed and breakfast now known as “GringoWasiâ€.
The name was chosen as a way to pay respect to the local culture, most of the population of Huarocondo still speak their native language Quechua, Wasi being a Quechua word for house means the name can be translated to “Gringo's Houseâ€.
GringoWasi offers a large great room for relaxing, an inviting patio, separate dining room, kitchen, 24 hr. hot water, DVD library for guest use and a smoke free environment, guests can also enjoy complimentary Wi-fi throughout the property, bag storage and calls to or from the US and Canada.
Our spacious rooms feature locally handcrafted décor and wood floors. Select rooms also include down comforters clock radio I-pod docks, 32†LCD televisions with satellite and DVD players. Breakfast is included with your room and may include (subject to availability) fresh baked breads, fruit, ham, lechon (roast pig), cheeses, jam, eggs, fruit juice, milk, coffee, and teas. Laundry services, transportation and evening meals are also available for an additional fee.
At GringoWasi we also offer tour services for our guests and would be happy to assist with all your travel plans, beginning with your arrival in Lima. We work with several properties in Lima as well as local tour operators and would be happy to assist you in booking your room in Lima, flight from Lima to Cusco and any desired tours.
Additionally we offer private and personalized back road adventure tours to some of the local sites on a limited basis. Please contact us in advance if you are interested in a private tour as they tend to go quick. Tour options include Machu Picchu, Sacred Valley, Inca Trail, Moray, paragliding, zip lines and bungee jumping to name a few.
If you are looking for a little local excitement we suggest visiting in November when there are two separate festivals, one celebrating the founding of the city and the other a celebration of roast pig or “Lechonâ€. June is also an exciting time as this is when the region celebrates Inti Raymi, the biggest festival in the area and one of the busiest times to visit Cusco.

From Cusco, take route 3S west out of the valley, continue along 3S to the town of Izcuchaca.
In the center of town there is a “Y†intersection with a sign indicating Huarocondo is to the right. Take the road to the right and follow it to the town of Huarocondo, once in town you will cross a bridge, after crossing the bridge, take the first right followed by the first left.
Continue straight to the main plaza, stay to the right and take the street to the right of the cathedral (Jr. Independencia), follow the street up the hill to the first corner, GringoWasi is located on the right corner.
