What you will visit at Danakill Depression and Arta’ela Volcano

Dallol (Danakill dipression one of among the lowest point on Earth)

which is a step away from the flat salt ground, is by far the most stimulating site ever seen? The marvel, about 200 Km far of mekelle, is 3000 hectare wide and 123 meters below sea level. Made up of potash, sulfur and other valuable minerals, pours water that smokes. The color of the ground sprinkles and the smoke jointly discharges a vibrant image, a rare incident ever to encounter.


Arte-ale (an often steaming active volcano)
Erta Ale is 613 metres (2,011 ft) high, with one or sometimes two active lava lakes at the summit which occasionally overflow on the south side of the volcano. It is notable for being the longest-existing lava lake, present since the early years of the twentieth century (1906). Volcanoes with lava lakes are very rare.
Erta Ale means "smoking mountain" in the local Afar language and its southernmost pit is known locally as "the gateway to Hell". Erta Ale is centered over the east African rift system which is a triple junction setting that is resulting in the formation of a pull apart basin or rift. The volcano comprises mainly Mafic material which has been brought up to the surface caused by unroofing of the mantle due to the formation of the pull-apart basin.

All the way to Dallol and farther afield (Arte-ale), is escorted with various astonishing sceneries. An act of venturing to Dallol and beyond surprises, which altogether enables one together a lot of unlikely experiences, thus arouses a sense of sole hero.

Day 1: Mekele-Hamed Ela

On our first day, we will from the airport on the early morning flight or from your hotel and then drive from Mekele to Hamed Ela via Berehale, where we will pick up police scouts, road guides, and permits for the Afar region. Sights and highlights for the day include striking changes in scenery as we drop from 2220 elevation to below sea level, camel caravans, and camping beneath the star-filled sky.

Meals: lunch and dinner

Day 2: Hamed Ela â€" Dallol â€" Hamed Ela

The morning will be spent crossing salt flats by car and by foot, visiting the rust red, turquois, and sulphurous yellow acid ponds of Dallol it is 25 Km from the village of Hamed’ela

Back to camp for the afternoon to rest, relax, and discover the surrounding village of Hamed Ela.

Day 3: Hamed Ela â€" Kursawad â€" Ertale

Brek camp at Hamed Ela and race across the desert, spotting herds of camels and traditional Afar homes, to Kursawad to make final arrangement for our evening hike, lunch, and possibly even tea with the village elder. A slow, but spectacular drive through hardened magma fields brings us to the base of Mount Ertale where we pause to rest and wait out the heat before our trek. As the sun sets, we leave behind the jeeps and set out for a three hour hike, accompanied by a camel caravan carrying gear and water, to the edge of Mount Ertale. We camp here for a night lit by the stars and glow of the nearby volcano.

WHAT TO BRING FOR A TRAVEL IN ETHIOPIA.....

Personal clothing: strong normal clothing (according to season). Preferably cotton, even for summer, woolen clothing for the evening and winter.
For Trekking, one must bring:

1. Strong comfortable trekking boots â€" water-resistant for the rainy period-June-August.
2. Sunscreen
3. Sunglasses
4. Rain coat (especially for rainy period â€"June-August) but also helping for unconditional raining
5. Head gear/hat/cap; sun and rain protection
6. Water pills â€" for extra caution in purifying stream;
7. Aspirin â€" in case of altitude sickness
8. Socks
9. Headlamps and small torches (strongly recommended having one of each, with spare Batteries).
10. ABEK Gas masks for the Dallol observation. (This was very recommended it’s not possible to find here in Ethiopia)
