The Folkestone Inn is nestled in a grove of giant Norway Spruces, beside a mountain brook near the Deep Creek entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The inn is just two miles north of Bryson City, a sleepy little mountain community (pop. 1,400) which offers peace and quiet amid a wealth of natural scenery and outdoor activities. There's hiking, trout fishing and horseback riding in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, mountain biking on the famous Tsali trails, fishing on Fontana Lake, sightseeing on the Great Smoky Mountains Scenic Railway and white water rafting on the Nantahala River, just a twenty-five minute drive from the Inn. There's an 18-hole golf course nearby, and the Biltmore Estate and Winery is just a little over an hour away, in nearby Asheville.
Step into the Folkestone Inn and step back in time. With its antique furnishings and mountain memorabilia, the inn reminds many visitors of their grandma's house. Casual and cozy, the Folkestone Inn is filled with old-fashioned charm. Originally a 1920s mountain farmhouse, the Folkestone Inn offers ten guest rooms, all with private baths with claw foot tubs and showers. Upstairs, the inn offers private balconies with vistas of the Great Smoky Mountains, while the downstairs rooms offer an olde world charm, with flagstone floors and pressed-tin ceilings. All rooms have air conditioning, with independent controls. Breakfast varies from day to day, and may include such main course specialties as eggs benedict, blueberry pancakes, shirred eggs, french toast stuffed with bananas and walnuts, four cheese & herb quiche, and berry-dairy pancakes. The delectable first course includes such tempting offerings as berry kuchen, peach cobbler, banana boats, grape salad, and fruit-yogurt-granola cups.
101 Folkestone Road, Bryson City, North Carolina 28713
Best routes to take. Some of our area roads, while scenic, are quite curvy and slow-going, particularly US 19, US 129 and US 28. And we have found that mapping services sometimes recommend these older two-lane routes over the newer four-lane expressways. For the fastest and easiest routes, follow the directions on this page. From East Atlanta, take I-85-N to I-985-N to US-441-N to US-74-W to Exit 67. Three hours. From West Atlanta, take I-75-N to I-575-N to Blue Ridge, Georgia, then GA-60-W to GA-60-Spur to US-74-E to Exit 67. Three hours. From Knoxville, take I-40-E to TN-66-S (exit 407) to US-441-S to Cherokee, then US-19-S. Three hours. From Chattanooga, take I-75-N to US 64-E to Murphy, then US-19 and US-74-E to exit 67. Three hours. From Asheville, Take I-40-W to US-74-W (exit 27) to Exit 67. One hour. The Folkestone Inn is two miles north of the Bryson City Railway Depot, near the Deep Creek entrance to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. If you're coming to Bryson City on US 74, be sure to take the second Bryson City exit (No. 67). At the offramp, go north and continue down the hill on VETERANS BLVD. to the traffic light, where you'll turn RIGHT onto MAIN STREET. At the next traffic light, turn LEFT onto EVERETT STREET. Go through town (four blocks). When you cross the RR tracks at the Bryson City train depot, continue on Everett another 100 yards, then bear RIGHT on TOOT HOLLOW ROAD. (There is no street sign for Toot Hollow, but there is a blue "Bed & Brkfst" sign and a smaller green "Folkestone Inn" sign.) Follow this winding road for almost two miles to the Folkestone Inn. You'll have two left turns near the Inn and we have signs at both turns.
