Bring the family and visit Tweetsie Railroad or trek to the top of Grandfather Mountain with its nature museum, native animal zoo and unparalleled "mile-high view". Summer brings rafting, canoeing, additional hiking opportunities and cool mountain breezes to relax you. You may care to look in the many craft shops, antique centers and art galleries in the area. Autumn brings a colorful vista unrivaled anywhere in the world. Cruise the Blue Ridge Parkway to regal in the splendor displayed by Mother Nature on the way to one of the numerous fall festivals.

Accommodations
We have a Western Red Cedar log home with all natural wood inside and out. The living area downstairs has wood stove with glass doors to warm you in the winter and take the chill off in the spring and fall. The sitting room upstairs has satellite TV with VCR, and is a quiet place to read or relax. We have table and chairs on the back deck where you may have breakfast if the weather permits. The front deck has rocking chairs for you to rock away your worries and enjoy the cool mountain breezes. Our five acres offer unimproved hiking trails and a beautiful mountain view.

As you enter Hummingbird Lodge, a cathedral ceiling towers 28 feet above you exposing pegged beams of the timber frame construction. The interior walls are rough-hewn western red cedar and all of the floors and ceilings are tongue-and-groove pine. Our four guest rooms all feature queen size beds and private baths and one of them is a family suite. It has two twin beds for the kids in an anteroom so Mom & Pop can have some privacy too. The upstairs rooms feature a unique "open ceiling" giving exposure to the cathedral ceiling 18 feet above.
Services Offered
Our menu notebook from local restaurants enables you to peruse the fare from a wide variety of three, four and five star resturants before you go and get suggestions based on atmosphere, food or both. We are happy to assist you by making reservations for meals or activities you may choose. Susan serves homemade cookies for between meal snacking and we are happy to provide beverages as well. Special diets are accommodated upon request and please let us know if you have any special requests for a special occasion. Flower arrangements for special occasions can be provided for a nominal fee.
Policies & Restrictions
No smoking indoors. We provide ashtrays for the smoker's convenience on both the front and back deck. Our pets generally do not mix well with your pets, so we ask that you leave them in your car or at home. We will only accept pets into the lodge by special arrangement when there are no other guests. Children of any age are welcome as long as they are accompanied by well-behaved parents. All parties traveling with children are asked to be especially considerate of our other guests.
Call 828-963-7210 for reservations. We accept VISA, MC, Discover Card, Travelers Checks, personal checks and cash. Reservations may be secured with a credit card #. No charge will be made on your card until your actual stay unless you forfeit your reservation without proper notice. We require a minimum notice of 14 days to cancel without penalty. If you do cancel within 14 days, your credit card will be charged a $50.00 cancellation fee. This amount may be applied to a future stay on any non-holiday weekend or weekday within the next six months. If not used within those six months, the fee is forfeited.

Banner Elk is about 4 hours from Raleigh, 1 hr. from Hickory, 2 1/2 hr. from Charlotte, 5 1/2 hrs. from Atlanta, 11 hours from Orlando, 5 hr. from Nashville, 2 1/2 hrs. from Knoxville, and 2 hours from Spartanburg, SC. We are located 2 1/2 miles outside of Banner Elk, NC on NC Hwy 194, north towards Valle Crucis. We will be happy to provide more detailed directions at the time you make your reservation specific for the direction from which you are traveling.
