The Birdwatcher´s House provides a comfortable, tranquil base for birdwatchers and travelers to explore Mindo´s famous natural beauty. Guests can recline in a hammock and watch hummingbirds feed in the lush garden, or else ease their sore muscles in the 6-person jacuzzi. All prices include a satisfying breakfast of eggs, fruit, bread and coffee.
Conveniently located near the centre of Mindo, the House is the perfect location to enjoy the nearby waterfalls, hiking trails, zip-lines, nature reserves, the butterfly sanctuary and chocolate factory, as well as the region´s many famous birding locations. The House is recently renovated, and its spacious and bright rooms are kept immaculately clean. All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with 24hr hot water. The owner, Vinicio Perez, is a fluent English speaker and a bird guide with 33 years experience. His vivid bird photos enliven the walls creating a homely, welcoming feel. Vicino is keen to share his knowledge of the natural environment with his guests, and can also provide expert bird tours where he guides groups to see many of the area´s famous birds, such as the stunning ´Cock of the Rock´.
Directions
From Quito, catch the Flor de Valle bus from Ofelia bus terminal. At the time of writing, buses leave at 8:30am and 3:30pm everyday. Alternatively, you can catch a bus to Los Bancos that leave every hour from the Carcelen station. In both cases, ask to be let off at the entrance to town, 'La entrada de Mindo'.
You can alsontake a taxi from the terminal for approximately $35, or else Vinicio can handle all the transport arrangements for you. Quito to Mindo takes around two hours.
The Birdwatcher´s House is 6km from the entrance to Mindo. Take a taxi and ask to go to Birdwatcher's House, Vincio Perez's hotel, near Santa Rosa. It should cost about 6 USD.
