Towards the Summit of Monte Morrone

Typical Day

A morning stroll through the mountains, can be followed by a swim in the sea during the afternoon, and the day can close with a starlit delicious dinner.

Family Activities: Canoeing on Tirino River

Age range, type of group

Alpine meadows and forests of beech give way at the massif’s highest reaches to an almost desert landscape, with pockets of year-round snow. Mountain streams tumble down deep gorges and hidden valleys, where secluded rock hermitages from the Middle Ages can be found. Rich nature, old traditions and archeological findings contribute to make the Mount Majella territories a perfect place for excursions and trips.

Today secluded sanctuaries and cave churches can still be found, built into the cliff-sides. Some are simple dwellings roughly hewn out of the rock, while others have been restored and are now protected as national monuments.

We offer Self Guided, Guided, Family, Wild Flowers and Cooking Holidays. Two new product for 2014 include Weigh Loss & Detox Holidays and Raw Food Retreat.

Sleeping and meals

Located in a dramatic mountain region dotted with unspoilt traditional villages where time has stood still, our Walking Holidays are based in the small mountain village of Decontra in a number of recently restored and well appointed cottages.

At 810m Decontra is in a superb position, with stunning south-facing views over the Orfento Gorge to Monte Amaro (2793m), Monte Morrone (2061m) and the lush Orta valley in between.
