The Westman Islands (#1/4) A short ferry between cliff-dwelling seabird colonies will take you today to the Westman Islands, where a recent eruption created Surtsey – one of the world’s newest islands. It also forced a night-time evacuation of 5300 residents, and buried 400 homes under a new 600ft mountain of fresh lava. You can climb this still-warm lava mountain.
Geysir - The grandfather of all geysers (#2/4) The Great Geyser is an overwhelming sight. This landmark of Iceland is a spectacular natural phenomenon beyond description. A recent earthquake (richter 6.3) increased activity here significantly, making this an interesting time to visit.
Icelandic Horses (#3/4) There are over 75,000 horses in Iceland - Impressive considering that the population of Iceland is just over 300,000 people! Icelandic horses are on average about 10cm shorter than normal horses, and are known for their beautiful thick manes and unique gait known as the tölt.
Sk (#4/4) This stunning waterfall can easily be viewed from above or below. Nearby a museum of folk history and technology will surely fill your afternoon.
